The HiBook News: This Edition, Still Searching For The Perfect Notebook

By Tim

As folks may have noticed I am really looking into getting another notebook. I have covered quite a few of them on here in recent posts and videos. However I am sort of beginning to  narrow my list down.

Price is of course a big concern, but so is RAM and a decent display. I am currently leaning towards a 13.3 or 14.1 inch notebook and my minimums are not all that restrictive since quite a few have made my “A” list.

My minimum specs are as follows:

  • 13.3 inch or larger Full HD 1080p display
  • An Intel Celeron N3450 processor
  • 6 GB RAM
  • SSD storage availability is a must
  • Good battery life is a must
  • Dual Band Wireless 802.11b/g/n/ac
  • Plenty of ports for a mouse/microSD and HDMI out

Those specs have eliminated a few devices from my list already such as the Chuwi LapBook 12.3. There simply is no point in getting a 12.3 inch notebook when the Hi12 is a mere 3 tenths of an inch smaller and has a great display and works well as a notebook when used with my Logitech K480 Bluetooth keyboard.

I have also eliminated the Chuwi SurBook 2 in 1 device because it isn’t any bigger than the LapBook 12.3 and is does not have SSD expansion capabilities.

That of course has me down to the following notebooks:

  • The Chuwi LapBook 14.1, which meets almost all the requirements and is dirt cheap. It does lack the 6 GB RAM but 4 GB is probably more than I really need. I did a comparison post between this one and the LapBook 12.3 a few weeks back.
  • The Jumper EZBook 3 Pro which is priced very reasonably and has the 6 GB RAM.  It has all the requirements I listed above and has done well in reviews!
  • Last on my current list is the new Chuwi LapBook Air which has some killer specs with the 8 GB RAM and a fully laminated screen. However this one is only a want until I see some reviews on it. At this point we don’t know how it actually performs when it comes to the display and battery life.

Now by no means are the notebooks that I eliminated not good they are both  great, but for me they just don’t fit into what I need for work and they simply are not big enough to justify me spending the money on.

So that is the current list and where I am at right now, unless some kind soul would like to donate a small bundle of cash so I can get a few into my hands for serious testing. Or if folks actually clicked the ads and links here and bought a few of these items, that would help tremendously.

That is all I have for now. As usual this post was written on the Hi12 while the HiBook is the server today.

Finally We Have Some Pricing AND Specs On The Chuwi LapBook Air Notebook!

By Tim

The LapBook Air

Today Chuwi’s web site reflected that the LapBook Air would soon be released and you can sign up to either win one or get a $50 coupon off the initial sales price of $429.99.  That sales price, is pretty low considering the specs! The $50 coupon would really make this an appealing notebook for many folks at $379! (which by the way, was below my guess back when they were asking folks to guess the price)

Of course I had to look around for the specs and found them listed on both Gearbest and Amazon. Based on what I have read on those 2 sites here is what we are looking at spec-wise.

  • Intel Apollo Lake N3450 CPU
  • 8 GB RAM
  • 128 GB eMMC onboard storage
  • Easy to access slot on bottom to add an M2 2242 SSD
  • 1920 x 1080 fully laminated display
  • Back-lit Keyboard
  • 2 Full size USB 3.0 ports
  • a microSD card slot
  • HDMI port
  • 3.5 mm headphone jack
  • Dual Band Wireless 802.11b/g/n/ac
  • Battery is 10000 mAh

Those are the things I know for sure. How it performs, how good the display looks and how the battery life is I will leave up to Andrew and Chris, the two reviewers that I follow and trust.

One more thing I do know, Amazon has stated the LapBook Air will be available on Oct 10th!

And now, more images…

That is all I have at this time,

Tim

Today’s Video Worth Sharing: Full Review Of The Jumper EZBook 3 Plus

By Tim

Our video today covers the full review of the Jumper EZBook 3 Plus. This is a fairly decent notebook but does have one major flaw and that is the TN display, (click here for more info on display types).

However if you are just looking for processing power and RAM and an easily upgradeable storage solution, then this might be what you are looking for.

The short list of specs are as follows:

  • Intel Core M3 7Y30  processor
  • 8 GB RAM
  • 128 GB SSD (Upgrade M2 slot on bottom of notebook)
  • WiFi b/g/n/ac dual band
  • microSD slot
  • 2 full size USB 3 .0 ports
  • 1920 x 1080 display, 14 inch

Overall this is a decent notebook for productivity or school. It certainly isn’t a gaming notebook, but it can do real work.

So let us get to the video from Chris over at TechTablets and see what he has to say.

This notebook is available for about $429 at this link.

That is all for now,

Tim

I Learned Some Stuff Today Using The OpenShot Video Editor!

By Tim

Of course if you listen to the folks whose videos I share, they always tell you you can’t use this device or that for video editing…wrong!

As usual I beg to differ! My little Zotac Ci323 with an N3150 processor actually helped me edit a video that I sort of needed some additions to.

Let us keep in mind we are of course not talking super duper videos, but I still wanted to add some info to the video that I was posting for work.

That of course  involved playing about a bit and learning how to add some text to the video in Openshot at appropriate screw up/left out info points.

It turns out that 30 minutes of education via clicking the wrong shit the first time taught me a lot! Point is never give up, simply click and do…and if that doesn’t work, try again…and again.

So to get to the tech details, the video below was edited on a PC, in Openshot, with 8 GB ram…but…yeah, I run a server off of this device and it uses up 5.3 GB so we are talking using a mere 2.7 GB RAM!

The edits took less that 5 minutes to process even with the minimal ram available. You can imagine how fast this would be of you were not insane and running a web server on your PC at the same time!

Hopefully when I get the notebook I am searching for with an N3450 processor things will be even faster! But never believe that you need some sort of $800+ PC to do editing of videos!

Below is the video or if you clicked on the post image you might have already seen it!

Incidentally, you can buy this car from us for a mere $15,900 which is about 10 grand less than a new one, but considering the fact this one has only 354 miles, you might be an idiot if you looked elsewhere!

That is all for this evening,

Tim

Today’s Video Worth Sharing: Full Review of The Chuwi SurBook 12.3 Inch 2 In 1 Tablet PC

By Tim

Today’s video covers the full review of the Chuwi SurBook 2 in 1 Windows Tablet PC. It comes to us from Chris over at TechTablets. This device sports a 2736 x 1824 screen resolution which is the same as a Surface Book. This is an IGZO display.

Also included we have either 128 GB or 64 GB of onboard eMMC storage, an Intel Celeron N3450 Apollo Lake CPU, 6 GB of RAM and 2 Full Size USB 3.0 ports and a USB-C 3.1 port.

There is also a microSD card slot in the mix and an optional back-lit keyboard and a stylus. This is a pretty decent device although it has a hefty price tag but is obviously far less expensive than a Microsoft Surface Book.

This one isn’t on my list because of the storage limitations. I would have preferred to see an SSD slot on this device so upgrading storage would be easily available.

So all that being said, let us proceed to the video!

This device is currently available at Banggood for $429.99.

That is all for now,

Tim
