I have been testing out the COMFAST CF – 913AC USB adapter for a few days now and I think it is worth every penny I paid for it. It solves the issue of less expensive devices not having dual-band wireless ac capabilities for a fraction of the cost of deciding to purchase some high-end device instead.
This little adapter which works with a standard USB port can provide you wireless speeds up to 600 mb/s. Keep in mind however that in many cases you do not need those speeds since your Internet provider may not offer those speeds on their end.
Just because you have a router that has WiFi ac band (5GHz) does not mean, as in my case, that your Internet provider allows those connection speeds on their network. The bottom line is as always, that the slowest link in the chain between you and the world controls all. If your ISP provides for example, 75 mb/s downloads and 6 mb/s uploads, no matter how fast you connect to the router you have it will NEVER be faster than the bottleneck provided by your ISP.
On the other hand, if you have a lot of devices in your home hitting your router, using the 5GHz channel in addition to the 2.4 GHz channel, can certainly provided a little more speed out of the router itself.
Now all that being said, here is my review of the ComFast CF-913AC USB adapter. First of all it works great, it is reversible, meaning you can put it into a standard USB slot either way., (I know, I thought that USB-C was the only thing that did that, but not true).
I have tried it on both my Chuwi tablets, the HiBook and the Hi12 and used every possible port, USB 2, USB 3, USB-C, micro-USB, whether directly or via a dongle and I always get 433.5 mb/s no matter what, which appears to be a limitation of my router because my Asus Z580CA tablet, a year or so back, did the same performance-wise, and my Zotac ZBox Ci323 connects at the same 433.5 mb/s.
Don’t waste your money in search of dual band wireless unless you can really use it, but if your device might be used in multiple locations, then consider one of these rather than blowing money on an Apple/Samsung/Microsoft or other expensive device just for the wireless speed.
