Samsung unveiled out of nowhere a new laptop today, the Samsung Notebook Flash, which has a much more compact than usual format and also brings forth a retro design. It also provides Gigabit WiFi, which is always a big plus.
The product uses a 13.3 inch Full HD screen with wide view angles and it comes in 3 cover colors. It’s Linen White, Twill Charcoal and Soft Coral. On board we find Intel’s Gigabit wireless LAN card, which on paper allows this machine to hit 1.7 Gbps in speed, which is pretty impressive. Samsung opted for a retro look, at least in the keyboard area. The keys feel like the Google Pixel Slate ones, but also like those of a typewriter a bit.
They’re supposed to offer a comfy typing experience and every keycap is curved, in order to give the impression that it’s been individually crafted. The palm rest offers a fabric-like texture, supposed to replace the standard metallic one from a regular laptop. Samsung worked with Microsoft in order to offer boosted security features for this device. It comes with a fingerprint sensor, as well as the Windows Hello feature from Windows 10.
Sadly, Samsung didn’t quite insist on the hardware and technical specs. It’s not very clear what CPU we’re getting or how much storage. What’s clear is that we get an USB Type-C port. The product is sold for a mere $715, which is quite OK. We don’t have a clue if the product is coming internationally or not. At this price I’d predict 4 GB of RAM inside and maybe a Core m3 CPU.
