It’s been more than 3 years since the last iPad Mini came, the iPad Mini 4, so we’re long overdue an upgrade. Apple has been reported a bunch of times to have prepared a follow-up, potentially together with a 10 inch educational iPad. The iPad Mini 5 info is now being provided by Japanese blog Macotakara. They’re a pretty reliable source, that now claims that the product will have many things in common with the iPad Mini 4, starting with the audio jack, Touch ID fingerprint scanner and Lightning port.
No USB Type-C port or Face ID, it seems. Even the overall dimensions and large bezels are unchanged. Apple decided against Face ID and slim bezels, because it would have pushed the price of the device to a way too high range. People are expecting the iPad Mini 5 to start at less than the $329 price tag of the 9.7 inch iPad (2018).
The iPad Mini 4 is still being sold for $399 in the 128 GB version, in the meantime. The CPU is said to be an Apple A10 or A10X for the iPad Mini 5, plus enough RAM, something like 3 GB of maybe even 4. I think that the Apple A10 and 3 GB of RAM are enough. If this is priced anywhere below $300, it’s actually worth the buy. Apple Pencil compatibility is still in the cards.
