Apple couldn’t wait till March 25 when it has a special event scheduled and debuted two new iPads today. One is the iPad Mini 5 and the other is the iPad Air 10.5 (2019) model. Both have an Apple A12 CPU inside and this piece focuses more on the bigger version. Let’s see what it has to offer.
This device is priced at $499 and up and it comes with a chassis that’s slimmer and lighter than the previous affordable iPads. It’s got the same Apple A12 CPU from the iPad Mini 5 and iPhone XS Max, by the way. The device uses an unibody metal case and keeps the Home button and fingerprint scanner. It packs a 10.5 inch True Tone display, plus it comes in gold, silver and space gray.
Apple also debuted a special Smart Keyboard accessory for the device, which is also compatible with a stylus. The product weighs 456 grams and measures 6.1 mm in thickness. It doesn’t have the rumored USB Type-C port, by the way, sticking with Lightning instead.
The screen on board is fully laminated and the full specs of the machine go like this:
- Display: 10.5 inch, LED, 2224 x 1668 pixels, 500 nits
- CPU: Apple A12
- Storage: 64 GB, 256 GB
- Battery: 30.2 Whr, 10 hours of usage
- Camera: 8 MP back, 7 MP front
- Connectivity: WiFi ac, Bluetooth 5.0, 4G
- Others: Touch ID, stereo speakers, audio jack
The 64 GB version of the device is priced at $499 and the highest priced model is the 4G 256 GB one, at $779. The Smart Keyboard is $159 and the Apple Pencil first gen is compatible with this slate, at $99. The new iPad Air is already up for preorder and reaches shops next week.
