Tonight’s Video Worth Sharing: The Huawei P Smart Review

By Tim

Today I watched another great video from Linus over at TechLineHD on the Huawei P smartphone. This one appears to be a solid performer and offers very decent performance at a very low price.

Personally I am still considering the LeEco Pro 3 phone that I wrote about a few weeks back.

The phone has a great display, fast performance and does most things very well. It is not a phone for gamers, but one must ask, why in the hell are you playing 3D games on a phone anyway? The device sports some of the following specs:

  • 5.65-inch with Fullview Full HD IPS LCD capacitive touchscreen
  • HiSilicon Kirin 659, Octa-core, Main Camera’s: DUAL 13MP+2MP, f/2.0, autofocus, LED flash; Front Camera: 8 MP
  • 32GB ROM, 3GB RAM. Finger Print Sensor.
  • 3000mAh Super Battery.
  • MicroSD slot up to 256GB

This is a GSM phone and can be used with AT&T and T-Mobile and any other carriers using those carriers and using GSM.

So let us get right to the video, because that is why you are here…and make sure to subscibe to his channel if this stuff interests you!

That is all I have for now,

Tim

Tonight’s Video Worth Sharing: The Teclast F7 Pro Notebook, UnBoxing And Initial Impressions

By Tim

Teclast has put out a very decent 14 inch tablet with good specs and at a budget price. The video we have tonight is from Chris over at TechTablets and covers his initial impressions of the device.

Now I am still going to recommend the Chuwi LapBook Air, only because it has 8 GB RAM, more on-board storage and a back-lit keyboard, but if price is a major concern this one can be had at a reasonable price and will perform equally well.

The basic specs are as follows:

  • Intel Celeron N3450 Apollo Lake CPU, Quad Core
  • Windows 10 Home
  • 14 inch IPS FHD display
  • SSD Expansion slot
  • 6 GB RAM
  • 64 GB eMMC 5.1 on-board storage
  • Great keyboard and track pad
  • WIFI: 802.11 ac

As far as pricing goes, I do suggest shopping around although I understand that if you use coupon code: TECLASTS$200-$10 that you can get this device for about $219!

So without any further babbling on my part, here is the video. Make sure to subscribe to the TechTablets site if this stuff appeals to you!

Remember, the Chinese retailers change prices constantly, so make sure to be patient, wait for flash sales and check multiple sites.

Always check BangGood.com and Geekbuying.com in addition to the Gearbest site.

That is all for now,

Tim

Tonight’s Video Worth Sharing: The Alfawise 7.9 Inch Android Review

By Tim

This one appears to be an excellent 7.9 inch tablet with a super hi-res screen and excellent battery and touch screen performance.

This one comes to us from Chris over at TechTablets and as usual includes the usual nit-picky commentary, but that is good because when you are buying something you want to know all the pros and cons.

The basic specs are as follows:

  •   Android Version 6.0
  •  MTK8173 Quad Core 1.6GHz, up to 2.0GHz
  •  IMG GX6250 GPU
  •  Equipped with 7.9 inch Retina Screen with 2048 x 1536 Resolution
  •  4GB RAM 64GB ROM
  •  Dual Cameras for Photos and Face-to-face Chat
8.0MP AF rear camera + 5.0MP front camera
  •  Dual Band 2.4GHz / 5.0GHz WiFi

This is a very decent tablet currently available on Gearbest for $207 but there is a coupon code for it and that is: ALFAWISETAB01. That code should reduce your price a bit although at $207 this one is still a good bargain.

So make sure to check out the entire TechTablets channel on YouTube and here is that video!

That is all for right now,

Tim

This Morning’s Video Worth Sharing: The Huawei Mate 10 Pro Smartphone/The Huawei Mate 10

By Tim

Today we are looking at the Huawei Mate 10 Pro, 6 inch “flagship” smartphone. This video comes to us from Andrew over at AMDTech and as usual covers all the bases and is honest and nit-picky which is good. I have also added in a bonus video from Linus over at TechLineHD on the Huawei Mate 10 that has some advantages over the Pro version.

In the case of this particular device Andrew was somewhat at a loss to find any major flaws since this is a great device. However you must purchase this device as an unlocked non-contract device since AT&T and T-Mobile, the 2 GSM carriers out there do not carry it on contract due to pressure from the feds here in the USA. Apparently the fact that Huawei is actually owned by the Chinese government and they did get caught a few years back putting in some back-doors on their devices for spying purposes has sort of made them persona non-grata here in America.

Of course you can still get one of these, just not as part of your provider’s contract program, which would make the $799 price tag a bit easier to deal with. It is however an excellent device and considering what Apple and Google and Samsung are charging for their phones it is a bit of a bargain.

So as usual make sure to check out Andrew’s channel on YouTube and subscribe if this kind of info is what you like to keep up on.

Now let us get right to that video.

Below you will find a review on the Huawei Mate 10, the slightly less expensive, but pretty darned great phone. This is from Linus over at TechLineHD so make sure to check out his channel!

That is all for now,

Tim

The HiBook News: Issue 5486, Okay Maybe Issue 52, General Info

By Tim

So this week was an interesting one as I  learned far more than I ever really wanted to know about VPN software and devices and also actually shot a video on my BLU Studio Energy 2 phone on the stuff I  use and why I use it.

That video and the info related to it can be found in this post from a few days ago.

I also did my taxes and it appears that I will be able to get cable in here in roughly 2.5 weeks.  That should alleviate some issues I have, since using you mobile WiFi hotspot can certainly put a damper on your web surfing, unless you happen to be rich.

I have also learned that the few visitors we do get don’t appear to be concerned about me getting rid of all the ads here. I would much rather have a cleaner site, that loads faster and not have to keep track of the latest adverts and when they expire and which new ones to put on. To put it mildly, I would like to ditch them all, if possible or certainly minimize them to perhaps just the post signature section. But of course no one has helped us out a bit. Not one single solitary person has coughed up even a dollar to help out the site. No one has registered and posted an article.

Perhaps someone out there knows what I should do to get some folks to send me stuff to test, or perhaps you have a slightly out of date product that you would like to see tested as a server. Yeah, that is what we do, notebooks, tablets, it doesn’t matter, it all gets beaten to death as a server. Got an idea, leave a comment, but do not post any URL’s since the security software here will see it as spam and it will be killed during the daily database optimization.

Obviously I am still recommending to folks to not go high end if you do not really need it. There are always fast, low cost mini-pc’s and lower end tablets and notebooks that do not cost a fortune that will get the job done.

As usual, if you want to help, donate, or inform or join and write!

So that is all I have for this edition,

Tim
