Tonight’s Video Worth Sharing: The Chuwi SurBook Mini 2 in 1 Tablet/Notebook

By Tim

This one comes to us from Andrew over at AMDTech and covers the details on the Chuwi SurBook Mini Tablet/Notebook 2 in 1 device. The device is the smaller of the 2 SurBooks available from Chuwi and has some good and not so good features.

Below are the basic specs:

  • Intel Celeron N3450 Processor
  • 4 GB DDR3 RAM
  • microSD Slot
  • USB-C charging/data port
  • 2 USB full size ports
  • 64 GB eMMC 5.1 spec on-board storage
  • Windows 10 Home
  • 10.8 inch 1920 x 1080 fully laminated IPS display

The specs are okay, but here is my take on this. Sure it is a 2 in 1, but there are quite a few better ones than this one at a similar price point. Unless you absolutely use a 2 in 1 you can make do with a Bluetooth keyboard and a tablet of any size.

The storage is horrible, they could easily have provided a way to use an M2242 SSD drive for some real storage capacity. Yes, the microSD slot will help a lot, but at the expense of speed.

In this same price range you could probably find a notebook like the LapBook Air and get more storage, more RAM and a back-lit keyboard. Yes, you would forgo the touch screen and tablet use, but if you are going to primarily use it as a laptop, who cares?

However…if you need a nice basic 2 in 1 tablet PC, this might be just perfect for you. You can find it at this link for about $327 and they have a deal on the the keyboard also.

So let us get right to that video where you can see this thing in action and marvel at the quality of Andrew’s videos. Make sure you subscribe to his channel if you want super honest reviews.

Tonight’s Video Worth Sharing: The Microsoft Surface Book 2 15 Inch 2 in 1 Notebook

By Tim

The Microsoft Surface Book 2 is technically a tablet and a notebook, but at 15 inches, it isn’t exactly a handy to hold device, but it is surprisingly good. The video we have tonight is from Andrew over at AMDTech and is a full review of the Surface Book 2.

Of course this device has one huge downside and that is the astronomical price tag, but let us face facts folks, if you need a ton of processing power and like to do video editing and absolutely need to be able to draw on the screen with a stylus, well…yeah, it is certainly worth it.

We are looking at an 8th gen, Core i7 processor and an Nvdia GeForce GTX 1060 GPU. Yeah, lots of muscle here!

The display is outstanding, the web cam is great and there just isn’t a lot one can say that is a big negative. Battery life is good, the keyboard and track pad are great.

Sure, I have zero need for one of these myself, but there are folks who visit this site that might want to know all about this device, so I am going to quit typing and get you folks right to that video!

That is all for right now, as usual check out our donations link if you find this site the least bit useful,

Tim

Tonight’s Video(s) Worth Sharing From CES 2018, Dell XPS 15 2In 1 and HP X360 2 In 1

By Tim

Both of this evening’s videos come to us from Andrew at AMDTech who has been covering the CES  2018 show this week.

They are both quite short but as usual well done and full of useful content.

Both of these devices feature the new Intel Kaby Lake-G processor which has the AMD Graphics GPU on board.

As I stated they are both short videos but worth viewing and as usual I recommend subscribing to Andrew’s channel for all sorts of great tech info.

So let us get right to the videos both of which are below.

That is all for now,

Tim

CES 2018: Lenovo ThinkPad X1 Tablet 2018 is a Device for the Creatives

By James A.

Lenovo is one of the companies that keep churning out products, especially at tech shows, like MWC, IFA or CES. That’s probably why they’ve been filling our news feed with novelty over the past hours, with a variety of device formats taken on. Those include the Lenovo ThinkPad X1 Tablet 2018, a device for the creative types.

Unveiled at CES 2018, this tablet is supposed to be ideal for graphic designers. Compared to its predecessor it brings forth a new kickstand design, that involves a hinge starting in the middle of the back side. It feels a bit like Microsoft Surface and serves for extra flexibility. The detachable 2 in 1 computer hooks up to a Lenovo removable keyboard, which provides a pretty nifty key travel distance.

The screen is the one you’ll be using the most though, a 13 inch IPS touch display with a great 3000 x 2000 pixel resolution. This is a bump up from the predecessor’s 2160 x 1440 pixels. The panel is compatible with the Lenovo Pen Pro, the digitizer pen that supports 4096 levels of pressure and also tile to shade features. The device has two USB Type-C Thunderbolt 3 ports on the left side, but it lacks full size USB connectivity for some reason, at least from the preliminary specs.

This year’s model offers an Intel Core i7 7th gen CPU, plus up to 16 GB of RAM, up to 1 TB of SSD (OPAL2 PCIe-NVMe M.2). It all weighs 890 grams and measures 8.9 mm. The price is $1599 and availability happens this month.

Just shy of a year after announcing that Windows was once again going to be available on ARM systems, the first two systems were announced today: the Asus NovaGo 2-in-1 laptop, and the HP Envy x2 tablet.

Branded as Always Connected PCs, the new Windows on ARM systems are positioned as bringing together the best of PCs and smartphones. They have PC form factors, with the productivity enabled by a real keyboard, touchpad, and general purpose operating system capable of running regular Windows software, but they bring with them the seamless switching between LTE and Wi-Fi, instant on, multiple working day battery life, and slimline, lightweight packaging that we’re accustomed to on our phones.

The Asus laptop boasts 22 hours of battery life or 30 days of standby, along with LTE that can run at gigabit speeds. HP’s tablet offers a 12.3 inch, 1920×1280 screen, 20 hours battery life or 29 days of standby, and a removable keyboard-cover and stylus. Both systems use the Snapdragon 835 processor and X16 LTE modem, with HP offering up to 8GB RAM and 256GB storage to go with it.
