Panasonic Toughbook FZ-L1 is a new Rugged 7 inch Android Tablet For Mobile Workers

By Radu Iorga

Panasonic introduced a new tablet this week, but this time a smaller and rugged model, a 7 inch Android slate known as TOUGHBOOK FZ-L1. It has an optional integrated barcode reader and it’s both versatile and smartly priced. This rugged model is ideal for mobile workers.

The slate has uses in areas like hospitality, manufacturing, transportation and logistics. It can be used for real time ordering, inventory checks and proper localization of products. Routing, task association and inventory management are also on the table. It comes with a WiFi-only option for inside workers or with optional voice and data capability for field-based workers.

Panasonic’s Toughbook FZ-L1 weighs around 480 grams, which by rugged tablet standards is quite light. It’s based on a Snapdragon platform, runs Android and there will be an impressive total of 8 versions of the device available. They come with or without integrated enterprise class straightline barcode readers, used to scan 1D, 2D or QR codes. There’s also a choice of WiFi only or WiFi and 4G data capabilities, or Google Mobile Services.

The products run on Android 8.1 Oreo with the promise of an update to Android 9.0 Pie when it comes. A quad core Qualcomm Snapdragon CPU is inside, clocked at 1.1 GHz and accompanied by 16 GB of flash storage and 2 GB of RAM. Battery swap is included, letting you use another battery without interrupting work. As far as the ruggedness goes, the Toughbook has been certified for Military Standard 810G usage, with dust and water resistance up to IP67 and it can be dropped from up to 1.5 meters in height.

Accessories include cradles, holsters, battery packs, styli and protective films.

Leica Selects Getac’s Rugged Tablet ZX70 For New Tablet Package

By Radu Iorga

Leica Geosystems announced recently that it was selecting the fully rugged XZ70 tablet from Getac for its Leica Zeno GG04 Plus Tablet package. This is a package meant for utilities, public services and transportation, as well as construction.

The partnership allows Leica Geosystems to offer a comprehensive geospatial data collection for its customers, no matter the terrain and weather conditions. The Zeno Mobile data collection app and ZenoGG05 plus smart antenna are meant to help customers capture accurate geospatial data in the field. These are obtained with the aid of the Getac ZX70 Android tablet.

Leica Geosystems has thus created a solution that offers measurement accuracy, connectivity and durability in a single package. The device is easy to use with a single hand, making it popular for the demanding field surveying work. The Leica Zeno Mobile software is put to work here, for improved accuracy in the GNSS positioning system. Any authorized Android app can be installed on the machine.

Other features include a 7 inch IPS display, easy to read in any environment, including in direct sunlight. There’s also a LumiBond 2.0 touchscreen, which lets you operate the slate in the rain and with gloves on. We’ve also got a 4G modem here, that can transmit large data files pretty fast, even from the more remote locations. Clearly not a product for the average user, the device is meant for tough environments and isolated areas.

Amazon Fire 7 Kids Edition Tablets Now Discounted Till August 25th; Here’s the New Price

By James A.

Even though it’s not time for a Black Friday or any sort of special celebration, Amazon has decided to discount the Fire 7 Kids Edition tablets, for a limited time only. Amazon Fire 7 Kids Edition is now priced at just $79.99 down from $99.99 from now till August 25th.

This is meant as a companion device for the little ones, offering access to content, games and services tailor made for the kids. There’s content from Nickelodeon, PBS and Disney, plus much more. And since the young ones tend to move around a lot and also break stuff, the device packs a tough protective case, making it harder for kids to put a dent in the slate’s case or screen.

As far as specs go, the Amazon Fire 7 Kids Edition packs a 7 inch screen, 16 GB of storage and a variety of color choices. There’s blue, yellow and pink among them. The product is available with 2 year of worry free guarantee and 1 year of Fire for Kids Unlimited and a bundled Kid Proof Case. A welcome feature is the microSD card slot, that lets you expand storage.

The 7 inch screen is an IPS and offers HD resolution, while the battery life sits at about 8 hours. A quad core CPU clocked at 1.3 GHz should be enough for the most basic of tasks, Netflix included. By the way, there’s also a VGA front camera and a 2 MP rear shooter and dual band WiFi. You can get the device here discounted.

Huawei Honor Note 10 Debuts With 7 inch Screen, Kirin 970 CPU, Liquid Cooling

By James A.

Huawei Honor Note 10 is supposed to be the latest smartphone on the market, but it feels more like a tablet. It’s got a 7 inch screen, it’s focused on gaming and has a flagship CPU inside, the Kirin 970. And the price is not half bad.

Just unveiled officially, the device packs a solid AMOLED 6.95 inch screen panel with Full HD+ resolution, HDR10 support and somehow without a notch. It also has a 115% NTSC color support and comes with an octa core HiSilicon Kirin 970 CPU. Also on board are 6 or 8 GB of RAM, plus 64 or 128 GB of storage. A liquid cooling sollution is included here, as part of a 9 layer system used for heat dissipation.

Of course, the device has GPU Turbo, but also a new feature called CPU Turbo. They both work in tandem forming the Double Turbo mode, activated via a dedicated hardware button. That button can also serve as the shutter key for the camera. Speaking of which, the Honor Note 10 offers a dual back shooter with 24 MP + 16 MP combo, while upfront sits a 13 MP camera. It’s got the usual AI setup for scene recognition and other AI features.

Android 8.1 Oreo also makes the cut, with EMUI 8.2 on top and a 5000 mAh battery is in the mxi as well. Super Charge is supported and the price sounds pretty nice to me. I’m talking about a $409 starting sum, for the 6 GB RAM, 64 GB storage model. The 6 GB RAM, 128 GB model goes for $468 and the 8 GB RAM, 128 GB storage unit goes for $527. It’ll be available in Midnight Black and Phantom Blue from August 1st.
