Barnes & Noble Launches Nook Tablet 7 Incher Priced at $49.99

By Radu Iorga

Barnes & Noble is still kicking and the outlet has just debuted a new Nook tablet. The device is simply called Nook Tablet and this time it’s a 7 inch version of the 10 incher launched last month.

The new Nook sells for a mere $49.99, which is less than the price of a gourmet meal at a premium restaurant. As the price and name show, this is pretty much a budget offering, one that involves a 7 inch screen with a 1024 x 600 pixel resolution. We’ve got a 2 MP back camera, a VGA front shooter and a 3.5 mm audio jack. Then there’s also a battery that promises 7 hours of reading, video watching and web browsing.

16 GB of storage are here, plus a microSD card slot, which lets you add up to 128 GB of extra storage. Software-wise we’re dealing with Android and Google Play, which is something that Amazon isn’t offering. There’s also a Nook Bookstore available, parental controls and the works. The 7 inch Nook Tablet provides a smaller and cheaper alternative to the 10.1 incher and while it’s not as generous screen-wise, it gains in comfort and the ease of carrying around.

You can put it in your purse or bag and won’t even feel it’s there. You can order it right now.

One Mix 2 Yoga is Basically a 7 inch Convertible Channeling Smaller Vaios

By James A.

Remember netbooks? Remember the smaller Sony Vaio PCs? Well, those are now channeled by the latest Lenovo release, the One Mix 2 Yoga. It’s a 7 incher, that manages to be a convertible and also provide some productivity features. Let’s check it out.

One Mix 2 Yoga feels like a rival for the GPD gaming PCs, that came with Windows 10 or Android, sometimes also gaming buttons. That was a crowfunded project, but One Mix 2 Yoga seems like a smaller outfit, but with great ambition. Their product looks like a GPD Pocket clone, but it has the appeal of a rotating Lenovo-style screen, that bends backwards.

It makes the laptop a tablet, a convertible basically. There’s also a pressure sensitive stylus to work with. One Mix Yoga was actually available for a while, but it didn’t have impressive specs. The One Mix 2 Yoga solves problems with hardcore feats, like 8 GB of RAM, an Intel Core m3-7Y30 processor, 256 GB of SSD storage (PCIe). There’s also a 7 inch Full HD touchscreen to work with.

GeekBuying is offering a preorder sale for the basic configuration, at $650. It runs on Windows 10, sounds pretty pocketable to me and also has a fingerprint scanner. A 6500 mAh battery is also in the mix, plus dual band WiFi and a full metal shell that has metal art CNC engraving.

Google Home Hub Smart Display Appears in Fresh Renders

By Radu Iorga

Google Home Hub is a smart speaker with a 7 inch screen, that leaked last week in a render or two. Now it’s completed by even more renders, that detail the color choices, the stand and more. Google Home Hub Smart Display is shown in white and charcoal.

The product is expected to be announced on October 9th, when Google also plans to announce its Pixel 3 phones and probably some accessories. Google Home Hub was leaked this time to Android Headlines by a trusted source, so it’s as legit as they come. These Chalk and Charcoal versions are just the start, so probably we’ll see more colors in the future. The render highlights the slant of the stand/base, which gives a more natural viewing angle for the display.

The texture of the device feels like fabric, or a wicker basket of sorts. Expect this device to have Google Assistant full front and center and the screen lets you watch YouTube videos, take video calls and follow recipes. Sources say that we’ll see an interface similar to Android Things machines, with access and visual references to questions via Google Assistant.

You can stream music, control appliances and more. By the way, scratch that video call thing, since this device won’t have Google Duo videocalls, because it doesn’t have a camera, or at least we can’t see one or a shutoff switch. Aside from a 7 inch LCD display and far field microphones, we don’t have any sort of specs list. Expect a price of around $149 in USA.

Panasonic Toughbook FZ-L1 is a new Rugged 7 inch Android Tablet For Mobile Workers

By Radu Iorga

Panasonic introduced a new tablet this week, but this time a smaller and rugged model, a 7 inch Android slate known as TOUGHBOOK FZ-L1. It has an optional integrated barcode reader and it’s both versatile and smartly priced. This rugged model is ideal for mobile workers.

The slate has uses in areas like hospitality, manufacturing, transportation and logistics. It can be used for real time ordering, inventory checks and proper localization of products. Routing, task association and inventory management are also on the table. It comes with a WiFi-only option for inside workers or with optional voice and data capability for field-based workers.

Panasonic’s Toughbook FZ-L1 weighs around 480 grams, which by rugged tablet standards is quite light. It’s based on a Snapdragon platform, runs Android and there will be an impressive total of 8 versions of the device available. They come with or without integrated enterprise class straightline barcode readers, used to scan 1D, 2D or QR codes. There’s also a choice of WiFi only or WiFi and 4G data capabilities, or Google Mobile Services.

The products run on Android 8.1 Oreo with the promise of an update to Android 9.0 Pie when it comes. A quad core Qualcomm Snapdragon CPU is inside, clocked at 1.1 GHz and accompanied by 16 GB of flash storage and 2 GB of RAM. Battery swap is included, letting you use another battery without interrupting work. As far as the ruggedness goes, the Toughbook has been certified for Military Standard 810G usage, with dust and water resistance up to IP67 and it can be dropped from up to 1.5 meters in height.

Accessories include cradles, holsters, battery packs, styli and protective films.

Leica Selects Getac’s Rugged Tablet ZX70 For New Tablet Package

By Radu Iorga

Leica Geosystems announced recently that it was selecting the fully rugged XZ70 tablet from Getac for its Leica Zeno GG04 Plus Tablet package. This is a package meant for utilities, public services and transportation, as well as construction.

The partnership allows Leica Geosystems to offer a comprehensive geospatial data collection for its customers, no matter the terrain and weather conditions. The Zeno Mobile data collection app and ZenoGG05 plus smart antenna are meant to help customers capture accurate geospatial data in the field. These are obtained with the aid of the Getac ZX70 Android tablet.

Leica Geosystems has thus created a solution that offers measurement accuracy, connectivity and durability in a single package. The device is easy to use with a single hand, making it popular for the demanding field surveying work. The Leica Zeno Mobile software is put to work here, for improved accuracy in the GNSS positioning system. Any authorized Android app can be installed on the machine.

Other features include a 7 inch IPS display, easy to read in any environment, including in direct sunlight. There’s also a LumiBond 2.0 touchscreen, which lets you operate the slate in the rain and with gloves on. We’ve also got a 4G modem here, that can transmit large data files pretty fast, even from the more remote locations. Clearly not a product for the average user, the device is meant for tough environments and isolated areas.
