Huawei MediaPad M5 Now Available in USA Priced at $319, With Harman Kardon Speakers

By James A.

Huawei’s latest tablet, the MediaPad M5 is now available in USA, with a price tag of $319 and you can find it on Amazon or Newegg. The price is actually solid, considering what you’re getting on the multimedia side of things.

The device was announced at MWC 2018 and I have to admit it took its time to reach the States. It comes in 8.4 inch and 10.8 inch flavours, both powered by the Kirin 960 processor and 4 GB of RAM, as well as 64 GB of storage, plus microSD card slot. There’s a 13 MP back camera here, plus an 8 MP front shooter and Android 8.0 Oreo with EMUI 8.0 on top too.

Both types of diagonals share the same res: 2560 x 1600 pixels and the 10.8 inch model comes with a 7500 mAh battery, which is certainly more generous than the 5100 mAh one of the small unit. Keep in mind that the above mentioned price only applies to the 8.4 inch model, while the bigger one goes for $359.

A Pro version is also available, at $449, with a Huawei M Pen Stylus and a keyboard dock, which offers access to a custom desktop UI. The 8.4 inch Huawei MediaPad M5 also has Harman Kardon tuned speakers with 360 degree and promises 10 hours of battery life. You can get it here.

By Tim

This one comes to us from Andrew over at AMDTech and as usual, is nicely done, thorough and covers all the bases. This is the Huawei MediaPad M5 8.4 inch tablet full review.

It comes with the following specs:

The display, while not AMOLED is still stunnng and the speakers are really quite excellent for a tablet.

So let us proceed to the video and get all the details from Andrew and make sure to subscribe to his channel!

That is all for now, except please subscribe to our channel or click those big donation buttons on the website here!

Today’s First Video Worth Sharing: AllDoCube X1 Tablet/Phone

By Tim

Yes folks, this tablet is an 8.4 inch device that can actually be used as a phone. The device has some flaws and some great features which will be covered by Chris from TechTablets in the video below.

Andrew over at AMDTech brought us a similar unboxing and review about a week ago.

The tablet has the following specs:

  • Android 7.1 OS
  • 8.4 inch IPS 2560 x 1600 display
  • Helio X20 deca Core processor
  • Mali – T880 700MHz GPU
  • 64 GB ROM
  • Dual Sim or Sim and microSD card
  • WiFi 802.11 a/b/g/n/ac wireless internet
  • 13 mp rear and 8 mp front cameras
  • Battery: 4500mAh,

This is probably not the device you want to purchase if you want to play games or listen to music, but for basic surfing or using it with Bluetooth headsets it ought to get the job done. Plus it is, after all, a huge phone also!

So let us get right to the video, after once again mentioning to visit and subscribe to the TechTablets channel if you like these sort of honest, nit-picky ,(that is a good thing), reviews.

This device is currently available from Gearbest at $273.

That is all for now, please donate to the site or check out my YouTube channel!

Another Video Worth Sharing: The ALLDOCUBE X1, 8.4 inch Tablet!

By Tim

This one appears for now at least to be a very decent  8.4 inch tablet, at a reasonable price and with some good specs! This initial unboxing and review comes to us from Andrew over at AMDTech and covers the basics.

The basic specs are listed below:

  • Android 7.1 OS
  • 8.4 inch IPS 2560 x 1600 display
  • Helio X20 deca Core processor
  • Mali – T880 700MHz GPU
  • 64 GB ROM
  • Dual Sim or Sim and microSD card
  • WiFi 802.11 a/b/g/n/ac wireless internet
  • 13 mp rear and 8 mp front cameras
  • Battery: 4500mAh,

So the specs are pretty decent, although we should wait on the full review to see how it does on battery life.

All the above being said, make sure to visit Andrew’s YouTube channel and  subscribe to it! Now let us get right to that video!

This device is currently available for around $259 at this site.

That is all for now,

Tim

MWC 2018: Archos Debuts Hello Google Assistant Smart Display, Basically a Vertical Tablet

By Radu Iorga

As expected, some companies started the MWC 2018 unveilings early, such as Archos. They’ve just unveiled a new smart speaker with a screen in the mix and Google Assistant on board. It’s called the Archos Hello and it’s going to be priced at $160 for the 7 inch model and $222 for the 8.4 inch one.

French tablet maker Archos has created a smart display and speaker in one here. The design feels a bit like the one of the Lenovo Smart Display, but the actual device is narrower and longer. We get Full HD resolution on the 7 inch or 8.4 inch display and a high fidelity speaker that takes up about half of the screen’s size. Archos Hello actually runs on Android Oreo, so that’s another reason to compare it to be a tablet.

Specs are rather modest, including a quad core CPU (unknown maker), 2 GB of RAM and 16 GB of storage. You can use this product to ask it questions via Google Assistant, but you can also stream music, make video calls via Google Duo and the 5 megapixel front camera. Plus, you can watch YouTube on it or cast stuff to the TV set. If you ask me, the design feels like a door lock.

Archos has been preparing something special for cryptocurrency fans over at MWC 2018. They’ve created a hardware wallet for virtual coins, called the Safe-T Mini. It stores keys and grants access to coins. That one’s priced at $62 and comes in June.
