We Are Nearly 11 Months Into Using The HiBook As a Server And It is Still Great! :HiBook News Edition, Oh Hell 30?

By Tim

So after almost 11 months of testing I have reached several conclusions on the Chuwi HiBook tablet. They are exactly what one would expect from a pretty damned great, better specs tablet these days and that is, if you want a great  10 inch class, Dual Boot, tablet, buy one of these!

I am uncertain if you can find the original HiBook like this one but the Pro is better has a better display and a larger battery. The 10.1 inch screen on the original version is bright and to be frank, quite stunning when watch movies! It has it glitches here and there, but over all it is an incredible buy if you can find one on a flash sale at either Gearbest or Banggood.

The battery life is good and it can easily function as a notebook if you get the add on keyboard or use a Bluetooth keyboard available almost anywhere. I do like the K480 Logitech,  but there are a lot of decent Bluetooth keyboards available these days. Grab yourself an OTG adapter and you can use any wireless mouse out there.

No it isn’t a gaming machine, although N.O.V.A 3 does work well in Android. But if you are buying a 10 inch tablet for gaming I personally think you need to get a life.

The HiBook is certainly not as nice as the Hi12, but it is lighter, the ram runs faster, (BIOS tweak), and it doesn’t have nearly as many glitches as the Chuwi Hi12 that I am typing this article on. The HiBook has a USB C port the Hi12 doesn’t. On the flip side the Hi12 has  2 full size USB ports, 1 x 2.0 the other 1 x 3.0.  I am not entirely thrilled with USB C because it means if you have some older devices to connect you need to have an adapter.

The bottom line is that I am totally happy with both of the tablets we have here for testing and  including any adapters  and the super fast ComFast WiFi dual-band adapter I purchased, I am still about  $500-700 dollars below the cost of a single MicroCrap or Apple product, and yeah Samsung also!

That is all for now,

Tim

Deal Alert: Chuwi Hi10 Pro 2 in 1 Tablet Gets Serious Discount, Offers Intel Cherry Trail CPU, Dual OS

By James A.

Those looking for a tablet purchase ahead of their summer holiday, may find themselves attached to the Chuwi Hi10 Pro. This is a 2 in 1 tablet with dual OS, that’s being discounted these days by GearBest.com. They’re offering the device for $159.99, in gray.

The product has several versions, but the one that interests us is the one with Intel Cherry Trail X5-Z8350 processor. This is a quad core 64 bit CPU, clocked at 1.44 GHz, accompanied by 4 GB of RAM and 64 GB of storage. There’s also a modern USB Type-C port on board, stylus support and on the camera front, there’s a 2 MP front shooter and a 2 MP back camera.

WiFi b/g/n is also here, plus a micro HDMI port, so connectivity is not an issue. There’s a 10.1 inch screen in the mix, with a 1920 x 1200 pixel resolution, with an IPS LCD panel, which means large view angles. The design is also fitting for a more premium approach: full metal unibody design, with an 8.5 mm waistline and 562 gram weight. Magnetic keyboard and stylus pen support are offered, so accessories are welcome.

An interesting feat, which you can’t quite see on other modern tablets is the presence of two full USB ports. The battery is no slouch, a 6500 mAh unit, supporting up to 6-8 hours of normal usage. Quick charging is also available. And the most important thing is that this is a dual OS tablet, with both Windows 10 and Android 5.1 up for use.

The product is on sale here.

It’s Confirmed. The ComFast Dual Band Adapter Is A Bit Of A Battery Guzzler

By Tim

Whoa! Yeah the ComFast draws the juice!

In my previous post I mentioned how today we were going to retest the HiBook using the ComFast CF-913 Dual-Band, (2.4 GHz/5 GHz), WiFi  USB adapter.

This time I used the USB C port with an adapter of course and it was worse on the battery than the first test. The tablet was running as a server as of 0745 hrs today and the test ended when I plugged it back into the charger at 1735 hrs. That is just under 10 hrs and the amount of battery left? 4%, yeah, normally I get home and have anywhere from 40-50% power remaining.

So are the performance gains worth the battery consumption? I would say most definitely yes! For only $9.99 you get yourself WiFi ac speeds and somewhat better performance overall than the internal WiFi which is surrounded by a metal case. Is it a must have? Nope, wireless n at 150 mb/s is plenty fast, but if you must have faster and don’t want to get a new tablet or laptop it is a dirt cheap alternative. The bonus being you can use it on multiple devices.

Keep in mind that on a tablet with a huge battery like the Hi12, (11000 mAh), there is really no noticeable battery drain. I imagine that the HiBook Pro would also fair better because it has a larger battery, (8000 mAh), than the original HiBook.

I really think that the police cruiser intensity LED on the ComFast adapter is the major guzzler of power. A small tiny, tiny, LED would have sufficed.

That is all,

Tim

Running a Second Test on The HiBook Using The ComFast Wireless Dual Band USB Adapter

By Tim

Tomorrow morning, (06-21-17), I will be using the HiBook as the server again and running it via the ComFast CF – 913AC Wireless Dual Band Adapter.

I still think it is a great addition for anyone needing some WiFi ac  (5ghz), capabilities or having connection issues with an all metal tablet.

The previous test caused the server to drop down to 16% battery which for the HiBook is not only rare, but has made me rethink the previous results. Occasionally it may have a solid LED as far as charging goes before I pull the plug, but I have seen Windows cause it to only charge up to about 45%. I don’t know the whys of that, but I thought I would give it a second shot.

I am seriously thinking that no matter how bright that annoying LED on the adapter is, that it just isn’t going to kill the battery that much in only 8 hours…maybe 9 hrs at most.

So stay tuned for tomorrow’s HiBook Labs report…and yeah, it is still $9.99!

That is all for this evening,

Tim
