Today’s Hi12 Report! This Thing Is Still Fantastic After More Than a Year!

By Tim

So today I decided it was time for another video for our new YouTube Channel on High End Cheap Tech. The video went well but it took more than 3 hours to process the video due to the idiot (me) operating the keyboard here.

But I finally got it done and here I am sharing it, although somehow about 4 hours of my day has gone into the toilet.  I won’t go into the issues, although a power failure killed the first edit on the Zotac PC. Yeah, we can’t plan for those now can we?

I also found a way to shoot nice steady screen shot video at 1080p using the worst phone mount ever created, but it did get the job done.

So all of that being said, there is one minor correction in the video and that is the voice over should mention that I use the Hi12 to EDIT, not shoot all the videos I do for work. The camera’s on most inexpensive tablets are horrible, the camera on my old BLU Studio Energy 2 is still quite good!

So let us get right to the video in question and as usual, please like it, please leave comments and please subscribe and share!

In a few minutes we will have another video worth sharing from Andrew over at AMDTech on the HP Envy X2 ,Win 10 on ARM 2 in 1 notebook.

That is all for the moment,

Tim

Time Again For The HiBook News! Yes I Am Selling The HiBook! (video)

By Tim

The HiBook has basically outlived its usefulness as a test bed and I need to find another new High End Cheap Tech tablet to carry on the work! (see how I subtlety mentioned our new YouTube Channel?)

The HiBook has served me well and I still use it to watch videos and play the very occasional game in Android. However, since what I do is test tablets/notebooks as servers, etc, it has gone well beyond its useful life although it can still get the job done. But since we need an infusion of stuff to test here, I need to sell it to get something else to test.

Of course if folks would donate a wee bit to the site here, I could keep the HiBook, but in reality, I would love to move on and test new stuff!

These little thin and light tablets are perfect these days for use by children and even adults who simply want to watch videos and surf the web. The dual boot feature is great because there are things you can do in Android that you can’t do in Win 10.

So all that being said, here is the latest video on the new channel and please do like and subscribe and share. Note here: this was all shot on the super cheap Blu Studio Energy 2 at 1080p and edited on Openshot in Win 10 on my Zotac Ci323 with an N3150 processor and 8 GB ram.

That is all I have for this evening,

Tim

Chuwi Hi9 Air Android Gaming Tablet Now Finally Available for Purchase

By Radu Iorga

Not many device makers have the courage of promoting their tablets as “gaming devices”, but Chuwi is one of them. They have the Chuwi Hi9 Air model, which has been teased and announced a while back and it became available this week. It’s priced at $199.99 for a limited time offer.

Chuwi Hi9 Air actually saw the light of day during CES 2018, with few details unveiled. Then more details were offered last month. We’re dealing with a gaming tablet here, one that relies on the MediaTek Helio X20 processor, 4 GB of RAM and 64 GB of storage. It seems ready to give the Huawei MediaPads a run for the money. It also comes with a 10.1 inch screen with a generous resolution of 2560 x 1600 pixels.

It’s also a portable machine, with a 7.9 mm waistline and Android 8.0 Oreo on board. The 8000 mAh battery sounds generous and the promise is that under heavy usage you could reach up to 5.5 hours of functioning time. Another big plus is the support for 4G LTE connectivity, aside from the obvious WiFi and Bluetooth features. Chuwi also promises worldwide 4G availability, so you’re not limited to certain carriers.

The product is already available on Banggood for $199.99 till April 19th, when it goes back to being the regular price of $239.99. This device has a full metal body and from what I know it should also be offering dual SIM card slots. The design is actually not far from the Huawei MediaPads, by the way.

Their Are Better Notebooks Out There, But This One Will Absolutely Get the Job! (Videos)

By Tim

I know that all my tens of visitors know that I am a huge fan of Chuwi products because they get the job done!  Tonight I am going to go on in length about why the absolutely best notebook you can purchase on a budget is the Chuwi L.

Lets forget the fact that currently it is a bit overpriced and dig down into the reasons you should consider this one.

Lets focus on what you need to do with a laptop/notebook. Do you absolutely need amazing image/video editing. Okay, this ain’t the one. Do you need basic image/video editing qualities? Yeah, right here.

Do you need a bunch of ram to get stuff done? Well in most cases 8 GB is more than enough. And that is about 2 GB more than cheaper competitors offer.

You want a back-lit keyboard, yeah, got that covered. You want a decent track pad and lots of ports? Also covered! You want Win 10 with an expandable SSD storage solution that is easily accomplished? Covered!

You insist on thin and light…covered!

If you are doing spreadsheets, Word ,etc and surfing the web, this thing will get the job done all day, everyday.

I use a desktop powered with 8 GB Ram and a Celeron 3150 and this thing has an Apollo Lake 3450 with the same Ram so it should easily get the job done.

So below you will see a few videos that I have featured before….

Here is also a straight up comparison of specs between the Jumper EzBook 3 Pro and the Lapbook Air.

And another video….

Yeah, I would have a video if I had some web site support….

You can find this device on Gearbest and on Banggood, but be patient and wait for those prices to drop!

That is all I have for now,

Tim

The HiBook News: Thinking Of Creating a Small YouTube Channel

By Tim

I have been considering this for some time now. But it is expensive to get started, but it can be done, even on boring and sub-standard equipment.

The first stage of course is getting this server back onto my home turf, meaning, a cable connect which is now going to happen shortly.

Step 2 is to purchase a decent, albeit slow in today’s world laptop/notebook, that can edit video files and be used at work for the same purpose. Yes, I can already edit files on my Zotac PC and even on the Chuwi Hi12, given the time to process. But I need something a bit faster and dedicated.

The tipping point might just be the sale of the HiBook tablet, which is currently not used at all right now. Yeah, I know that sucks, because it still works great! I did put it up for sale on craigslist and the first 3 respondents were as usual scammers.

Perhaps I will go with a giveaway? Not sure at this point. All I know is that I watched the original Die Hard movie on it last night and was once again reminded of how good of a little tablet it was!

I am selling the HiBook, but a few donations or some participation could change that. Besides I like the “HiBook News” name, it is distinctive and different!

That is all I have for now,

Tim
