Today’s Video Worth Sharing: Another Pretty Good Review Of The Chuwi LapBook Air

By Tim

I am a huge fan of the notebook in this review and I will eventually be purchasing one. This review comes to us from Linus on the TechLineHD channel on YouTube.

He seems to be a very honest and straightforward reviewer and does point out the shortcoming of the device as well as all the reasons you might want to get your hands on one of these.

This notebook is still on sale at Banggood for roughly $380 so make sure to visit their site to see current pricing.

Be aware this is not a Dell or HP or Lenovo, but also be aware that the money you would save for a useful notebook over those high-end brands can get you a 256 GB SSD and perhaps a few hundred more in gasoline to fuel your car to get to work each day.

As I always try to do when sharing a video, I recommend this channel and I would highly suggest subscribing if you like this kind of tech info that is darned honest and gets to the point without the frills.

So all of that being said below you will find the video.

That is all for now,

Tim

Chuwi Hi9 is Probably the Best 8 inch Gaming Tablet You Can Buy for Less Than $200

By Radu Iorga

Remember when the 7 inch or 8 inch tablets ruled? They were excellent gaming devices, but the whole tablet segment seems to have shifted towards convertibles and huge devices. Luckily gaming still happens on a smaller scale, that’s why an 8 inch tablet still feels tempting. A device of the sort is the Chuwi Hi9, which is being sold by Banggood for an excellent price, below $200.

Chuwi Hi9 is a gaming tablet with an 8.4 inch display and it runs on Android 7.0 Nougat. It comes with a quad core MediaTek MT8173 processor and the resolution is pretty generous, at 2560 x 1600 pixels. There’s 4 GB of RAM inside, 64 GB of storage and a PowerVR GX6250 GPU takes care of the gaming aspect. The whole thing measures 7.9 mm, which by the way was the waistline of the Galaxy S7.

It’s got 2.4 and 5G dual band WiFi and the screen is sourced by JDI, with OGS and good looking 2.5D panel. Improved grip is important for long gaming sessions and that’s also offered here. A microSD card slot also makes the cut, plus a front 2 MP camera and a main 5 MP shooter, with HDR capabilities. Bluetooth 4.0 is on the list as well, plus a microUSB port, audio jack and a 4500 mAh battery.

Another piece of good news is that the device’s bundle includes a glass screen protector. The device has been with 1 meter drop tests and 100.000 times key tests, plus 23 general performance tests. If you want to get the good deal for it on Banggood, you can find it here.

Today’s Video Worth Sharing: Chuwi Hi9 Tablet, Unboxing And Review

By Tim

This video covers the new Chuwi Hi9 tablet. This is an 8.4 inch hi-res display tablet that is very light and offers decent but not great specs.

This one comes to us from Chris over at TechTablets and points out the shortcomings on this device.

In no way is this a bad tablet, there are just others you might want to consider in this price range which is currently at $180.

This is probably a good tablet for gaming and video consumption, but do not expect much usefulness from the cameras nor from the battery.

So all that being said, let us proceed right to the video.

This tablet is available currently from Banggood.com at $179.99.

That is all for now,

Tim

The HiBook News: This Edition- More Notebook Stuff!

By Tim

We all know by now what the latest laptop/notebook offerings are. Of course there are some amazing ones out there and if you feel the need to blow $1000 plus or even $1600 plus, I say go for it!

However tonight’s post simply concerns the fact that what looks pretty and slim and bleeding edge may NOT be what you need.

I would love to own a new Ford GT but I simply can’t justify blowing $450,000 on a car. After all, for the most part a Ford ZX2 will take me from point A-B just as well at a considerably lower cost.

So remove your preconceived notions about PC notebooks and let us get right into the costs. Bottom line  is do you watch YouTube/Netflix and edit some documents or perhaps even edit a photo or two? In that case keep reading, if not, walk away, you probably want a gaming device and that means buying the high  end stuff.

If you are still reading that means you probably need a budget notebook. You want something that can get the job done and nothing more. Thin, light, fast and to put it mildly…cheap!

So that brings us back to what you really should buy and the total cost and advantages/disadvantages of each of my top 2 selections.

That leaves us with 2 stellar budget notebooks which are the Chuwi LapBook 14.1 and the Jumper EZBook 3 Pro 13.3 inch notebooks. Certainly the Chuwi LapBook 12.3 is sort of in the mix, but let us stick to, at least in this article, the more traditional  notebook sizes.

Keyboards might be an issue, so do you like to type in the dark? If that is the case, only one clear winner here, the back-lit Chuwi LapBook Air. If not, then we still have a tie. Touch pads on both are about equal so that doesn’t even fit into the buying equation.

Chuwi LapBook Air

So first of all you have to ask yourself does size matter? After all, 13.3 inch versus 14.1 inch simply isn’t that huge of a difference. So for 95% of you readers this is a tie, so lets move on to the display type. Both of the top contenders have an IPS panel, but what is the environment that you will be using yours in? Outdoors? Get the Jumper, it has a matte coating, no sunlight reflections. All indoors? Get the Chuwi, with the full lamination display.

Jumper EZBOOK 3 PRO

Wireless speed and ports? Both of these have pretty much the same USB, microSD,  HDMI and headphone and charging ports and wireless speed  via wireless 802.11ac, including the same Intel 3165 chip sets. Battery life on both is within a few minutes.

Now as far as RAM goes, the Chuwi has more, although clocked at a slower speed to save battery life. Obviously these are not gaming machines, so that speed difference is pretty much offset but the 2 GB extra on the LapBook Air. But do you actually need 8 GB ram for doing the basics? Video, text, documents, web browsing? That is a very personal choice. If you want to multi-task more is better, but more is simply more expensive. We are talking budget here, yes?

So all the above being said we have sort of a tie ballgame, except now we hit that big one, pricing! The Chuwi, depending on the website and flash sales will generally be about $150 more right off the start. Roughly $379  for the LapBook versus the Jumper’s $239.  So if you are thinking pure budget, then the Jumper wins…but wait! Yeah, now some more things to consider.

The Jumper has an eMMC drive of only 64 GB which means you will absolutely need to upgrade it to an M.2 SSD right away for some decent storage and to speed performance.  The Chuwi comes with a 128 GB eMMC drive so perhaps you will wait on that SSD upgrade for a few months. Bottom line is, let us say you decide on a ZTC 128 GB M.2 2242 SSD, you would be spending roughly $70. That gives you lots of room, but still 64 GB less on the Jumper EZBook 3 Pro. Obviously if you have a microSD card laying about you can bump that up for next to nothing.,(purely a storage solution, because the microSD card will be 90% slower than an SSD). I have also found a site that offers ZTC Armor 2242 SSD cards for well under what you would pay for a slightly faster Transcend drive. How does $112 for 256 GB sound? Check them out and no I make zero off this link, I just happened across it.

So let us look at the costs, you would be spending about $319 for the EZBook 3 Pro because you will want that SSD and if you get the LapBook Air and the SSD you are looking at about $450. In the long run the Chuwi might be the overall winner, because of the extra RAM and bigger screen, but if you are simply looking to get some work done on your notebook I am going to have to recommend the EZBook 3 Pro as your best choice.

Obviously these devices may drop in price as all the new stuff hits for 2018, so keep a good lookout on that if you are simply waiting to pull the trigger on a purchase. Make sure to check the video on the top 3 budget notebooks that I posted quite awhile ago.

That is all for this morning,

Tim

Chuwi LapBook Air Still On Sale At BangGood: Excellent Budget Notebook At A Fair Price

By Tim

I just thought I would point out that BangGood.com still has the Chuwi LapBook Air on sale for about 2 more days at $379!

Sure that is a bunch for a budget Apollo Lake N3450 based notebook, but if you need a 14.1 inch screen (FHD) that is fully laminated, 8 GB of RAM and a back- lit keyboard then this one is the ticket!

You can watch the video I shared a few weeks back showing off the 3 best budget laptops/notebooks right here.

Obviously it all comes down to what you need. All 3 of the notebooks I linked in the video above are great and all three are expandable via an M.2 SSD slot. While the Jumper EZBook 3 Pro is considerably cheaper, that is for the 64 GB onboard storage version, with a smaller screen, while the Chuwi LapBook Air sports a reasonably fast 128 GB eMMC on-board. Now if you throw in a 128 GB SSD M.2 you suddenly have a very respectable 256 GB storage, in addition to the microSD card slot.

No, none of those mentioned in the link above are gaming laptops and they are not going to be super fast with processor intensive apps but if you just need to use it for documents, web surfing, photo editing, the the LapBook Air will get the job done for hundreds less than a Dell or a Xiaomi or a Huawei, etc.

You might see the links in the ads on this site but make sure to use this one to find the Banggood site, since I still am running ads for Gearbest, since prices vary wildly from week to week.

That is all I have for now,

Tim
