Samsung Galaxy Book 2 Now Official: Snapdragon 2 in 1 Laptop, Surface Killer

By Radu Iorga

Samsung could have launched the Galaxy Book 2 with the Tab S4 or Note9, but they chose to do it today on the down low. This device is clearly meant to compete with the Surface Pro 6 and the upcoming iPad Pros, as well as the Google Pixel Slate. Let’s check it out.

The tablet/laptop hybrid stays pretty much unchanged from the predecessor, at least design-wise and that’s my first impression. It’s slightly tweaked to be honest, getting a more rectangular shape, in spite of the bezel less trend. Galaxy Book 2 does look a bit like the Surface Pro 6, if you look at it closely. Specs include a 12 inch Super AMOLED screen with a 2160 x 1440 pixel resolution, plus two AKG tuned speakers.

There’s a Snapdragon 850 CPU inside, 4 GB of RAM and 128 GB of SSD. There’s also USB Type-C connectivity, an audio jack and everything is crammed within a 1.75 pound package. Samsung has yet to confirm the battery capacity, but it did announce 20 hours of battery life with a single charge. A microSD card slot is also here, plus Dolby Atmos and a fingerprint scanner. 4X4 MIMO and LTE Category 18 are here, plus a kickstand. The S Pen seems similar to what we get with the Tab S4.

This Windows 2 in 1 machine starts at $999 in USA, for the bundle that includes the keyboard cover and S-Pen. The product is available from November 2nd via Microsoft’s Store, Samsung, AT&T and more. Carriers will offer it with LTE plans.

Samsung Galaxy Book 2 2 in 1 Laptop Certified by FCC, Runs Windows 10

By Radu Iorga

Samsung has a new 2 in 1 device coming, we knew as much and now we learn that the Samsung Galaxy Book 2 has been certified by the FCC. It’s going to run on Windows 10 and it previously appeared in other leaks.

It was also certified by the EEC and WiFi Alliance and this second gen Galaxy Book appeared on the FCC website with the FCC ID A3L SMW737NO. EEC also had it with the model number “SM-W737”. It should also have a SM-W738 version, that will not make it to the US market. LTE connectivity should be in the mix, as well as WiFi dual band a/b/g/n/ac. Samsung’s first Galaxy Book came last year in two sizes: 10.6 inch and 12 inch.

It was all about productivity, hooking up an S-Pen with Windows 10 and the Air Command features. It had Smart Select, Samsung Notes and more. The current model has an Intel Core 7th gen CPU, while the Galaxy Book 2 is said to be ready to receive an 8th gen CPU inside. It’s said to ship with Windows 10 S, but I’m sure the upgrade to full Windows 10 is on the table.

While a launch time frame isn’t clear yet, we expect the product to be in stores around the holiday season. Expect the price to go past $1000, like the predecessor’s. I wouldn’t predict a jump to more than 16 GB of RAM though, but extra storage and maybe even some decent graphics may happen.

Samsung Galaxy Book 2 Ready for Debut, Apparently Certified in South Korea

By Radu Iorga

Samsung has a new Windows-powered Galaxy Book model coming and apparently that device has been certified in South Korea. Codenamed SM-W737N0, the device has been found as approved by the a regulatory agency, the RRA. The Galaxy Book 2 also previously leaked in Russia.

A few months ago the product was seen on Russia’s EEC portal, showing the first signs of a new laptop with Windows. Sadly, the RRA listing only pinpoints a LTE version, but it doesn’t also mean much else. We’re dealing with a 2 in 1 detachable here, that’s expected to come with multiple processor and storage versions, similar to the predecessor.

Considering the previous models and the Windows 10 Inking support, we also expect an S Pen to be bundled, or maybe some other new pen. Samsung had a busy time lately, launching Galaxy Tab S and Tab A models, but no new laptop. A new Galaxy Book would be welcome, especially since we’ve seen Acer and Lenovo launching a ton of laptops lately and Huawei even has a few solid ones as well.

The first gen Galaxy Book had a 10.6 inch and 12 inch screen version and some say that the successor will only come as a 12 incher, leaving behind the smaller diagonal. Samsung has been keeping a low profile with Windows so far, so that’s why things are still up in the air. Expect a big price, maybe above $1000.
