New Samsung Galaxy Tab A Tablets (SM-T290 and SM-T295) Get EEC Certification

By James A.

Samsung isn’t stopping with the recently launched Galaxy Tab 10.1 (2019) and the Galaxy Tab S5e, so they seem to be prepping even more tablets. Two such new devices just popped up via the EEC certification, codenamed SM-T920 and SM-T295.

The Eurasian Economic Commission has given its blessing for the debut of the devices, plus their versions that end the codenames with “X”. These devices should be follow-ups to the Galaxy Tab A 7.0 from 2016, which was codenamed SM-T820 in the WiFi version and LTE version (SM-T285). At the same time with the certifications, the SM-T295 was also spotted in GeekBench.

It shows Android 9.0 Pie on board, 2 GB of RAM and a quad core processor made by Qualcomm and clocked at 2.02 GHz. These are entry level specs for sure, but we may also get a superior version with 3 GB of RAM. Galaxy Tab A 7.0 (2016) debuted in 2016 with Android 5.1 Lollipop, a inch HD IPS LCD display and either a Spreadtrum CPU or a Snapdragon 410.

There were 1.5 GB of RAM on board, 8 GB of storage, a 4000 mAh battery and a 5 MP main camera. I expect a price that’s $200 tops and clearly a plastic case.

New Samsung Galaxy Tab A Tablet Appears in GeekBench, With Exynos 7885 Processor

By Radu Iorga

We already knew that Samsung was working on new Galaxy Tab A devices and even certifications and leaks happened. The SM-P205 model popped up a few times and now the affordable tablet appears in GeekBench, revealing some specs.

The device is listed in the benchmark’s online database, as Samsung SM-P205 and it comes with Android 9.0 Pie. It uses the Exynos 7885 processor, clocked at 1.59 GHz, plus 3 GB of RAM. We can’t tell other info for sure, but SamMobile believes the slate will be launched in Q1 2019. They’re also claiming it’s going to have 32 GB of storage and a microSD card slot.

The slate should be available in black and grey and it’ll have another version, known as SM-P200. The Exynos 7885 is a 14 nm processor that was announced last year. It comes with two ARM Cortex-A73 cores, clocked at 2.2 GHz and 6 ARM Cortex-A53 cores at 1.6 GHz. Then there’s the Mali G71 MP2 GPU and support for dual cameras with 4K video capture.

Integrated LTE radio is in the mix, plus compatibility with LPDDR4X RAM chips. This midranger could debut at MWC 2019, since Samsung doesn’t have anything else to launch there, as the S10 comes on February 20th. I’d love to see stylus support on this tablet, but I think it won’t happen.

Samsung Prepping New Midrange Tablet for Q1 2019 Unveiling

By Radu Iorga

We learned a few days ago that a new Galaxy Tab A slate was lurking at the regulatory agencies and now we discover more intel on those devices. The new series of midrange Galaxy Tab A slates is expected to come as soon as MWC 2019, together with the Galaxy S10 smartphones.

One of the new devices is codenamed Samsung SM-P205 and it’ll come with 32 GB of storage and a grey or black chassis. Galaxy Tab A 10.5 came a few months ago, so it’s due a follow-up. It proposes a 10.5 inch screen, 3 GB of RAM and 32 GB of storage. We’d like to see Android Pie on the new tablet, plus maybe some stylus action, 3 or 4 GB of RAM and an Exynos CPU that has enough power for at least a Galaxy A6 or A8 model.

Galaxy Tab A units have always been battery beasts and we expect no less from this newcomer. The screen on time was impressive ever since the new model and if Samsung wants to compete with Huawei they could also throw in an array of 4 speakers and other multimedia goodies, like AKG or Dolby tuning. That may be reserved for the Galaxy Tab S series though.

I’d settle with a bright display and a newer Exynos CPU.

Samsung Galaxy Tab A 10.5 Debuts in USA on September 14th

By James A.

Samsung is still a name that matters greatly on the tablet market, in spite of the fact that the tablet market itself is less than relevant nowadays. The South Koreans have decreased the frequency of their launches, but they still have 3-4 interesting models per year. Among them we find the midrange unit Samsung Galaxy Tab A 10.5, which has been confirmed for debut in USA on September 14th.

The device will come to the States on the same day as the Samsung Galaxy A6 handset. This slate was unveiled in early August with the bigger and more popular Galaxy Tab S4. It’s a 10.5 inch midrange tablet with Android Oreo and a 16:10 aspect ratio. It also offers a 1920 x 1200 pixel resolution, as well as quad speakers with Dolby acoustics. Inside it is the same 7300 mAh battery of the Tab S4 and a less powerful CPU, the Snapdragon 450.

There’s also a USB Type-C port in the mix and support for Smart Things, which lets you control your smart objects around the house. A Kids mode is included too, with digital learning, books, videos and limitations for the little ones. Samsung Galaxy Tab A 10.5 is priced at $329 and it’ll be available on Amazon, Walmart and Samsung’s own website.

It’ll come in a WiFi version at first, but a LTE one is also scheduled for debut on Sprint and Verizon later this year. We’ve also got 3 GB of RAM here and everything is crammed within a 529 gram package. There’s also an 8 MP back camera with a LED flash here.
