Tonight’s First Video Worth Sharing: HiBook Get’s Latest Win 10 Update, Sound Becomes an Issue!

By Tim

The other day I let the HiBook get the latest Spring Creators update and my sound drivers, etc went to hell in a handcart.

The bottom line is that the microphone is acting like a playback device also. Of course this produces horrendous feedback. I can fix that in the setting so it is removed from the playback devices, but in certain apps when I need to push the mic volume up I get that same feedback.

Below is the video we put on the new  YouTube channel last night to cover the issue. Leave a comment if you have an idea (preferably on YouTube).

That is all for now, except please subscribe to our channel or click those big donation buttons on the website here!

This Morning’s Video Worth Sharing: Totally Free Video and Image Editing Software That You Should Try!

By Tim

If you want to edit images, let’s face it, most programs/apps out there have severe limitations, however, if you want to learn new things and actually expand your horizons, the 2 programs I  did a video on tonight might be your ticket!

No, they do not compete with top-tier software nor are they super slick, but they get the job done and that is what we concentrate on here.

The bonus is they run on older hardware like my Hi12 and the HiBook. You do not need the latest Intel Core i7-xxxx and 16 gb of RAM to run them.

The video below was shot on the Zotac Ci323 and edited on the same machine, yes an Intel N3150 quad core Celeron with 8GB RAM.

The programs or apps as we have now been trained to say, are the GIMP and OpenShot. Both are totally free and work well and can get the basics done and might even surprise many folks!

The Gimp is available at this link and Openshot can be found right here!

As usual, please like the video, subscribe to the channel, leave a comment!

That is all for now, hopefully this will post up properly at the time I have scheduled it for…automation is great, but one never knows,

Time Again For The HiBook News! Yes I Am Selling The HiBook! (video)

By Tim

The HiBook has basically outlived its usefulness as a test bed and I need to find another new High End Cheap Tech tablet to carry on the work! (see how I subtlety mentioned our new YouTube Channel?)

The HiBook has served me well and I still use it to watch videos and play the very occasional game in Android. However, since what I do is test tablets/notebooks as servers, etc, it has gone well beyond its useful life although it can still get the job done. But since we need an infusion of stuff to test here, I need to sell it to get something else to test.

Of course if folks would donate a wee bit to the site here, I could keep the HiBook, but in reality, I would love to move on and test new stuff!

These little thin and light tablets are perfect these days for use by children and even adults who simply want to watch videos and surf the web. The dual boot feature is great because there are things you can do in Android that you can’t do in Win 10.

So all that being said, here is the latest video on the new channel and please do like and subscribe and share. Note here: this was all shot on the super cheap Blu Studio Energy 2 at 1080p and edited on Openshot in Win 10 on my Zotac Ci323 with an N3150 processor and 8 GB ram.

That is all I have for this evening,

Tim

New Video On The Channel and Also Some Humorous Idiocy!

By Tim

Tonight I decided to shoot an intro to a video with me as the featured person. I do not like being on camera, because in general I believe that what folks need is information. But being that all other YouTuber’s tend to spend far too much time on camera I thought I would throw myself to the wolves and be on camera for a short period as an intro.

So I short the first portion of the video and then began installing Linux Lite 3.8 onto the Zotac here as a Virtual Machine (VM) and got ready to do some video editing back in Linux to see what the differences were between Openshot on Win 10 and in Linux.

A quick note here, since I do not shoot selfies, I had never used the front camera on the Blu Studio Energy phone and was quite pleased with how well the video came out in low-light conditions! Not bad for a budget phone 5 mp camera at 720p!

Now here is the humorous idiocy. I edited a video for test purposes at first and I got no sound! Are you kidding me, no sound? I have run this same distro in earlier versions on the HiBook and the Hi12 and never got no sound!

So I proceeded to read and install and play with the audio settings on Linux. After roughly an hour or so it hit me… yeah I can be a dumb ass, I was using the HiBook to watch videos on YouTube while installing Linux Lite on the Zotac and had the audio jack from the speakers plugged into the HiBook. Lights ON! PC’s don’t have internal speakers like tablets!

So moving on I finished the video, played about with one transition and was rewarded with the same quality video I am used you which you can view below.

So below you will find the latest video on the channel. Please watch, click like and subscribe, after all who knows what stupidity I might be involved with next?

That is all for the evening,

Tim

The HiBook News: Thinking Of Creating a Small YouTube Channel

By Tim

I have been considering this for some time now. But it is expensive to get started, but it can be done, even on boring and sub-standard equipment.

The first stage of course is getting this server back onto my home turf, meaning, a cable connect which is now going to happen shortly.

Step 2 is to purchase a decent, albeit slow in today’s world laptop/notebook, that can edit video files and be used at work for the same purpose. Yes, I can already edit files on my Zotac PC and even on the Chuwi Hi12, given the time to process. But I need something a bit faster and dedicated.

The tipping point might just be the sale of the HiBook tablet, which is currently not used at all right now. Yeah, I know that sucks, because it still works great! I did put it up for sale on craigslist and the first 3 respondents were as usual scammers.

Perhaps I will go with a giveaway? Not sure at this point. All I know is that I watched the original Die Hard movie on it last night and was once again reminded of how good of a little tablet it was!

I am selling the HiBook, but a few donations or some participation could change that. Besides I like the “HiBook News” name, it is distinctive and different!

That is all I have for now,

Tim
