By Claudiu Sima

Huawei MediaPad M3 Lite 8.0

Recently, FCC certified another Huawei product – this time a tablet called MediaPad M3 Lite 8.0 and known under the CPN-W09 model number. If you remember, this slate was officially introduced in May and this certification means that the product will soon be available in the US.

In terms of the specs, we’re getting here some pretty nice features. First, there’s the 8-inch FHD display, the octa-core Qualcomm Snapdragon 435 processor and the 2 stereo speakers with Harman/Kardon technology. Android 7.0 Nougat is running here and a microUSB v2.0 is used for charging the 4800 mAh battery.

Huawei MediaPad M3 Lite 8.0 packs a 8-megapixel front facing camera and a similar sensor on the back. Two variants are available, one with 3 GB RAM + 32 GB storage and another one with 4 GB RAM and 64GB space of internal storage. This slate measures 7.5 mm in thickness, weighs 310 grams and we’re getting a unibody metal casing.

Apparently, you’ll be able to get a Wi-Fi Only variant or one equipped with LTE.

This Evening’s Video Worth Sharing: The Huawei MateBook X Laptop Review

By Tim

Huawei MateBook X

This evening’s post comes to us from Andrew over at AMDTechReviews and covers the Huawei MateBook X which is what seems to be a really good premium laptop/notebook.

It has a 13 inch screen, either an Intel Core i5 or I7 CPU and 8 gb ram. It also packs a 256 gb SSD and Windows 10 and quite a few other great features.

This particular device is pretty much pointed at folks who are potential MacBook buyer’s and for the money this one is certainly a far better deal. The fact that Huawei included 2 USB C ports and a USB C dock to expand connectivity is great!

So without anymore of my chatter below you will find the video.

The product reviewed in this video is available here.

That is all for now,

Tim

Huawei’s Latest MateBook Models Get US Pricing and Launch Dates

By Radu Iorga

Last month Huawei unveiled its triplet of MateBooks, the MateBook X, MateBook E and MateBook D. They are only now getting US pricing and release details, which is good thing, because they have the allure of devices that would do well in the States.

Each of the MateBooks targets a different group of consumers, with some of them taking on MacBooks or the Surface Laptop. The MateBook X for example feels like one such alternative, as it’s the top of the line model. It also has the looks to match, with a screen to body ratio of 88%. Also on board there’s a 13 inch display with a 2160 x 1440 pixel resolution, as well as a Dolby Atmos surround system and the option for a seventh gen Intel Core i7 or Core i5 CPU.

Storage involves SSD and it’s accompanied by 4 or 8 GB of RAM. Huawei’s Matebook X will be priced at $1099.99 in the Core i5/8 GB RAM version, with 256 GB of SSD storage, while the Core i7 model goes for $1299.99.

The MateBook E detachable is clearly a 2 in 1 Surface Pro rival, that will ship with a folio keyboard. It will be compatible with the Huawei MateBook Pen. This one also has an option for a HDD for extra storage. Finally, the Matebook E also handles some gaming, via the Nvidia GTX 940MX graphics card. This one has a screen to body ratio of 84%, uses a Quad HD screen and a 160 degree hinge.

MateBook E is priced at $799.99 in a Core M3/ 256 GB SSD version, while the Core i5/ 8 GB RAM model goes for $999. MateBook D should cost in the range of $699.99 with 1 TB of HDD and 8 GB of RAM. Huawei starts the products’ pre sale on June 30, lasting till Friday, July 7th.

Huawei MediaPad T3 7 Ready for Launch in Japan, Priced Only a Bit Above $100

By Radu Iorga

The Japanese tablet market is ready to be graced with the presence of a new device, the Huawei MediaPad T3 7, that will be sold at a very affordable rate. The price going around these days is $106 and we are dealing with a 7 incher here, with the specs detailed below.

The debut of the machine is slated for July 7th and only the WiFi model will make the cut. The MediaPad T3 7 is part of the affordable T series from Huawei, that has been selling well all over the world. It’s got an aluminum shell and a weight of just 250 grams. The product measures 8.6 mm in thickness and has a pretty simple design. It runs on Android 6.0 Marshmallow and relies on a MediaTek MT8127 quad core CPU clocked at 1.3 GHz.

There’s also 2 GB of RAM here, 16 GB of storage and a microSD card slot. By the way, the screen is a 7 incher with an iPad Mini 1 level resolution, of 1024 x 600 pixels (IPS LCD). Other features include a 2 MP front and back camera, WiFi 802.11 a/b/g/n and Bluetooth 4.1. Expect a 3G and maybe 4G LTE version to come later on, perhaps being adopted by local carriers.

The device seems promoted for media consumption, meaning music and movies, so I expect the speakers to be solid.

Huawei’s Latest Matebooks Start Selling in China, as Huawei Wants a Serious Piece of the Laptop/Tablet Market

By Radu Iorga

Huawei’s Matebook devices were unveiled a couple of weeks ago and today they started selling in China, Huawei’s homeland. Huawei is more known for its telecom equipment and smartphones, rather than laptops and tablets, but they’re making some serious progress there.

Wan Biao, COO of Huawei Consumer Business Group hinted that the company is focused on making laptops sell well. This is no coincidence, as Huawei has invested a lot in design and manufacturing. It seems to have paid off, as the Chinese firm seems happy with the response from customers. Sales of Huawei laptops and tablets have grown 70% in the first quarter compared to the previous year.

This goes against the downward trend of the global laptop and PC business. Of course we don’t have exact numbers from Huawei, but we expected some growth, to be honest. Globally, the shipments of laptops and tablets dropped 6.2% in 2016 to 269 million units, but there’s a slight tendency of resurgence, as new formats come to life and Qualcomm starts offering its Snapdragon chipsets to laptop makers.

Huawei has 3 new MateBook models, the Matebook X, MateBook D and MateBook E. The first of them is a 13 inch fanless laptop priced starting at $1027, while the MateBook is a 2 in 1 unit priced from $734. MateBook D is a 15.6 inch laptop starting at a similar a sum. With the huge profits from the smartphone biz, Huawei is set up for success in this area over the next year.
