Huawei MediaPad M5 and MediaPad M5 Pro Get Priced Ahead of MWC 2018 Unveiling

By James A.

The Huawei MediaPad M5 has leaked before, in certifications and specs, also some sketches, but today it’s time to learn its price. We also find out new details about the device’s versions and it seems we are about to get a MediaPad M5 and M5 Pro at MWC 2018.

Already certified by Bluetooth SIG and the FCC, the device was expected to debut in Barcelona at the end of the month in two versions: an 8.4 incher and a 10.1 incher (although it may also be 10.5 inches). Now tipster Roland Quandt claims that the MediaPad M5 8 inch model (codenamed Schubert) will feature 4 GB of RAM, 32 GB of storage and it’ll be priced at 328 euros ($405) in the WiFi version, while the LTE one will go for 380 euros ($469).

The larger model, the 10 inch one is codenamed Cameron and it will feature 4 GB of RAM and 32 GB of storage, plus it’ll be priced at 379 euros ($468) in the WiFi version and 420 euros ($518) in the LTE one. There’s even an extra MediaPad M5 Pro, with the codename “Cameron Pro”, which will come with 4 GB of RAM and 64 GB of storage. This one stands out through the support for the M-Pen stylus.

MediaPad M5 Pro only comes with LTE and will sell for around 520 euros ($642). All the new models are said to feature a Kirin 960 CPU, 2560 x 1600 pixel resolution and 4980 mAh battery, plus Android 8.0 Oreo.

Huawei Confirms Presence at MWC 2018, With MediaPad M5 Tablet Ready for Launch

By Radu Iorga

Huawei has confirmed its presence at MWC 2018, where they won’t be bringing any phones, but they will be bringing a new Huawei Watch and a MediaPad tablet. Said slate is the often leaked MediaPad M5. Let’s see what the news is.

First of all, the Huawei MediaPad M5 already got certified by the FCC and it was dead sure for a MWC 2018 unveiling. It has been leaked from all angles and it’s expected to come in an 8.4 inch and 10.1 inch version. Huawei’s event will also bring us the Huawei Pay service in European markets. We may also see some launches of midrange phones, maybe from the Honor series.

Both versions of the MediaPad M5 will bring Android 8.0 Oreo with EMUI 8 on top, an USB Type-C port and at least one of them has a 4980 mAh battery. I expected stereo or quad speakers on board, a 13 MP camera, 4 or 6 GB of RAM and I’ve heard there’s a Kirin 960 CPU on board. The screen resolution is 2560 x 1600 pixels and I’m pretty sure the body is made of metal.

The Home button with fingerprint scanner is not exactly a modern idea, but I’ll take it.

Huawei MediaPad M5 Leaks In Fresh Renders, Showcased From Variety of Angles

By Radu Iorga

Huawei MediaPad M5 has leaked before, thanks to FCC certifications and also Bluetooth SIG ones, but now it’s time for some renders to pop up. The device is shown in what appear to be official sketches. For those of you wondering why the jump from MediaPad M3 to M5, the number “4” is unlucky in China, so that’s why.

Anyway, the grayscale renders show us both a 10.1 inch and an 8.4 inch model, which is a new development. The SHT-W09 M5 passed the FCC certification last week, without a 3.5 mm audio jack, which seems to have returned now. I also expect some serious Harman Kardon acoustics on board, since the predecessor had them too. Dual or even quad speakers are to be expected.

The MediaPad M5 is said to have a 2.5D glass panel upfront, a unibody metal case and an USB Type-C connector. The hardware that leaked so far sounds reasonable: a 4980 mAh battery, a Kirin 960 processor and 4 GB of RAM. The screen will offer a 2560 x 1600 pixel resolution and we could see this product debuting at MWC 2018 in late February. The physical Home button with fingerprint scanner looks kind of ugly, I have to say.

I expect a 13 MP back camera, a solid selfie shooter and most likely EMUI 8.0 on top of Oreo.

Huawei MediaPad M5 Gets FCC Certified Ahead of MWC 2018 Unveiling

By Radu Iorga

Last we heard, Huawei was only bringing tablets and 2 in 1 devices to MWC 2018, postponing the P11 unveiling till April. Also, the MediaPad M5 tablet received the Bluetooth SIG certification last month and now it got the FCC nod too, revealing more details.

The FCC documents show a diagram of the newcomer, a portrait-oriented machine with a large camera cutout and what appear to be antenna lines at the top and bottom of the back. This is most likely a 7 or 8 inch device, expected to arrive with Android 8.0 Oreo with EMUI 8 on top. There’s an USB Type-C port on board, a 4980 mAh battery and GPS, as well as Glonass.

Bluetooth 4.2 also makes the cut, as well as WiFi 802.11 b/g/n in 2.4 and 5 GHz bands. Previous leaks and rumors pointed towards a screen similar to the MediaPad M3, meaning an 8.4 inch display with a 2560 x 1600 pixel resolution. A Kirin 960 CPU is expected to be inside, just like we saw on the Huawei P10 and Huawei Mate 9. I imagine that there are 4 GB of RAM on board, 32 GB of storage and maybe a capable 13 MP back camera.

Don’t be surprised if 2 or 4 stereo speakers are here, with Harman Kardon action.

New Huawei MediaPad M5 Tablet Appears, Certified by Bluetooth SIG As SHT-AL09/W09

By Radu Iorga

There’s a new Huawei tablet in town and we knew that much, judging by the latest leak, from an user agent profile. This time we see the device certified, but I have to highlight I may be an entirely different device alltogether. It appeared on Bluetooth SIG as the Huawei SHT-AL09/W09.

Previously the user agent profile seemed to hint at a MediaPad M4 and now this is supposed to be a MediaPad M5, so we don’t know what to make of it. What’s sure is that the annual Huawei tablet is gearing for debut at MWC 2018. Since it’s the successor of the MediaPad M3, it should be the M4, but you probably know that the number “4” brings bad luck in China, so that’s why we didn’t have a OnePlus 4 for example.

The resolution leaked for the new device is 2560 x 1600 pixels, in both the UAprof document and this Bluetooth SIG certification. Bluetooth 4.2 is also mentioned, as well as Android 8.0 Oreo. A Kirin 960 CPU will make the cut, not the Kirin 970, which is the most recent chipset from Huawei. I’m expecting 4 or 6 GB of RAM inside, a generous battery, perhaps a 5000 mAh one and a solid set of speakers, maybe even 4 of them.

I remember the MediaPad M3 camera being pretty strong for a tablet, so we should also see a potent sensor here. A metal body and fingerprint scanner are also must have.
