MWC 2018: Huawei MediaPad M5 Now Official, in 8 inch, 10 inch and Pro Version

By Radu Iorga

After a bunch of leaks and specs unveiled online, the Huawei MediaPad M5 tablets finally came to life today at MWC 2018. We did get an 8 inch, 10 inch and Pro model as rumored. The Pro even bundles an M-Pen stylus and the exciting novelty is the Harman Kardon set of acoustics.

Huawei MediaPad 5 8 is an 8.4 inch tablet, while the MediaPad M5 10 is a 10.8 inch slate. The MediaPad M5 10 Pro takes everything up to the best config possible, complete with LTE, M-Pen stylus, 4 GB of RAM and 64 GB of storage. All the slate share Android 8.0 Oreo with EMUI 8.0 on top and a 2560 x 1600 pixel resolution. Harman Kardon acoustics are here, as quad speakers included at least on the big unit, but I also expect the small one to get some action.

The M-Pen provides 4096 levels of pressure and plays nicely with photo editing and drawing software. Huawei MediaPad M5 8 packs a Kirin 960 CPU, 4 GB of RAM, 32 GB of storage and its 8.4 inch IPS LCD display has a 2560 x 1600 pixel res. There’s a 13 MP back camera and an 8 MP front shooter, which are shared by the 10 inch model too. Both have metal chassis and Quick Charge.

The smaller unit has a 5100 mAh battery, while the biggie goes with a 7500 mAh unit. All models have WiFi and LTE versions and the 10.8 incher measures 7.3 mm in thickness and weighs 498 grams. An interesting feat for the M-Pen is the fact that it offers special shortcut buttons, for screen capture, deleting images, starting apps and more. There’s also an optional keyboard for the 10 inch tablet.

Huawei MediaPad M5 8 starts at $428, MediaPad M5 10 at $490 and the M5 10 Pro at $613.

New Huawei MediaPad M5 Renders Appear, Confirming Harman Kardon Acoustics

By Radu Iorga

We’re just one hour away from the big Huawei event at MWC 2018, where the Chinese company is going to unveil the MediaPad M5 tablets. Just before the launch some new renders of the devices appeared, focusing on the 10 inch version and revealing its Harman Kardon acoustics.

We’ve already seen the MediaPad M5 a bunch of times, but the device gets reconfirmed this way. It seems that it’s going to have a 10.8 inch display in the big version and also a ton of speaker holes for some high end Harman action. We also see a big 13 megapixel back camera and a generous 8 MP front shooter, plus 3 metal pins at the bottom back, probably for attaching accessories.

Built out of metal, the device is said to have a Kirin 960 CPU inside, 32 GB of storage and 4 GB of RAM. I expect that the Pro model will have 64 GB of storage, an M Pen stylus and more goodies. A microSD card slot is also here, plus we’re going to get a keyboard accessory and a fingerprint scanner too. Strangely leaks have mentioned Android 7.0 Nougat instead of Oreo on board.

The waistline is 7 mm thick and the MediaPad M5 10 is just 499 gram heavy. A starting price of $490 is expected, while the LTE model will probably add $70 more. The 8 inch version may be cheaper.

Huawei MediaPad M5 and MediaPad M5 Pro Get Priced Ahead of MWC 2018 Unveiling

By James A.

The Huawei MediaPad M5 has leaked before, in certifications and specs, also some sketches, but today it’s time to learn its price. We also find out new details about the device’s versions and it seems we are about to get a MediaPad M5 and M5 Pro at MWC 2018.

Already certified by Bluetooth SIG and the FCC, the device was expected to debut in Barcelona at the end of the month in two versions: an 8.4 incher and a 10.1 incher (although it may also be 10.5 inches). Now tipster Roland Quandt claims that the MediaPad M5 8 inch model (codenamed Schubert) will feature 4 GB of RAM, 32 GB of storage and it’ll be priced at 328 euros ($405) in the WiFi version, while the LTE one will go for 380 euros ($469).

The larger model, the 10 inch one is codenamed Cameron and it will feature 4 GB of RAM and 32 GB of storage, plus it’ll be priced at 379 euros ($468) in the WiFi version and 420 euros ($518) in the LTE one. There’s even an extra MediaPad M5 Pro, with the codename “Cameron Pro”, which will come with 4 GB of RAM and 64 GB of storage. This one stands out through the support for the M-Pen stylus.

MediaPad M5 Pro only comes with LTE and will sell for around 520 euros ($642). All the new models are said to feature a Kirin 960 CPU, 2560 x 1600 pixel resolution and 4980 mAh battery, plus Android 8.0 Oreo.

Huawei Confirms Presence at MWC 2018, With MediaPad M5 Tablet Ready for Launch

By Radu Iorga

Huawei has confirmed its presence at MWC 2018, where they won’t be bringing any phones, but they will be bringing a new Huawei Watch and a MediaPad tablet. Said slate is the often leaked MediaPad M5. Let’s see what the news is.

First of all, the Huawei MediaPad M5 already got certified by the FCC and it was dead sure for a MWC 2018 unveiling. It has been leaked from all angles and it’s expected to come in an 8.4 inch and 10.1 inch version. Huawei’s event will also bring us the Huawei Pay service in European markets. We may also see some launches of midrange phones, maybe from the Honor series.

Both versions of the MediaPad M5 will bring Android 8.0 Oreo with EMUI 8 on top, an USB Type-C port and at least one of them has a 4980 mAh battery. I expected stereo or quad speakers on board, a 13 MP camera, 4 or 6 GB of RAM and I’ve heard there’s a Kirin 960 CPU on board. The screen resolution is 2560 x 1600 pixels and I’m pretty sure the body is made of metal.

The Home button with fingerprint scanner is not exactly a modern idea, but I’ll take it.

Huawei MediaPad M5 Leaks In Fresh Renders, Showcased From Variety of Angles

By Radu Iorga

Huawei MediaPad M5 has leaked before, thanks to FCC certifications and also Bluetooth SIG ones, but now it’s time for some renders to pop up. The device is shown in what appear to be official sketches. For those of you wondering why the jump from MediaPad M3 to M5, the number “4” is unlucky in China, so that’s why.

Anyway, the grayscale renders show us both a 10.1 inch and an 8.4 inch model, which is a new development. The SHT-W09 M5 passed the FCC certification last week, without a 3.5 mm audio jack, which seems to have returned now. I also expect some serious Harman Kardon acoustics on board, since the predecessor had them too. Dual or even quad speakers are to be expected.

The MediaPad M5 is said to have a 2.5D glass panel upfront, a unibody metal case and an USB Type-C connector. The hardware that leaked so far sounds reasonable: a 4980 mAh battery, a Kirin 960 processor and 4 GB of RAM. The screen will offer a 2560 x 1600 pixel resolution and we could see this product debuting at MWC 2018 in late February. The physical Home button with fingerprint scanner looks kind of ugly, I have to say.

I expect a 13 MP back camera, a solid selfie shooter and most likely EMUI 8.0 on top of Oreo.
