Tonight’s Video Worth Sharing: A Comparison of the Xiaomi Mi Notebook 13 VS the 15

By Tim

Both of the notebooks mentioned in the title are fast have similar processors and GPU’s but there are some serious drawbacks to the 13. 3 inch Mi NoteBook Air 13 (13.3 inch).

This video is from Chris over at TechTablets and covers the differences between the 2 notebooks admirably. Make sure to use the Iink provided to visit his channel.

The smaller device is obviously lighter and because both units use a similar display the display on the smaller one looks better. But, then we run into the negatives.

For me the main reason for a small notebook would be portability, battery life and no worries about overheating. The bottom line is that when you start using a high end processor in a super slim chassis then you are going to have issues.  For now I will stick to the Apollo Lake N3450 powered machines which can get day to day work done, never overheat and cost a boatload less than the 13.3 inch high end devices.

But of course that is just me. Feel free to spend your money for whatever it is you need.

So let us get right to that video…

If you must have a small thin note book I still recommend the LapBook Air from Chuwi. However you need to look for flash sales on it right now, because they are charging too much at most retail sites.

That is all I have for now,

Tim

Tonight’s Video Worth Sharing: The 2018 Xiaomi Pro And Some Bios Information.

By Tim

This one comes to us from Chris over at TechTablets and concerns the latest versions of the BIOS for 2018 on the Xiaomi NoteBook Pro 15.6 inch  model with the Core i5-8250U CPU.

This one is related to last year’s model and we covered that in this post.

There are several versions of the BIOS for this model and Chris explains quite nicely the differences between the versions and what you need to know about SSD speeds and power limits.

So with no further intro here is the info you may want to know.

This notebook is currently available at a great price on Geekbuying.

That is all I have for now except for the usual request to make a donation to this site,

Tim

Xiaomi Mi Notebook Pro Becomes Official, Feels Like a MacBook Pro Rival

By Radu Iorga

Xiaomi’s big event blowout happened today and the company debuted not only two new smartphones, but also a laptop, the Xiaomi Mi Notebook Pro. This machine can be dubbed a MacBook Pro rival, but also at 50% its price tag.

This is also a follow-up to the last year model Mi Notebook Air, with a fresher approach. Xiaomi Mi Notebook has some solid specs, like a 15.6 inch screen with ultra narrow bezels. Inside there’s an Intel Core i7 processor, as well as up to 16 GB of RAM, up to 1 TB of SSD storage and the brand new Nvidia GeForce MX150 graphics chip. This is more powerful than integrated Intel graphics, believe me.

On the connectivity front there’s USB Type-C, two full USB ports, a 3 in 1 card reader and a full size HDMI port. For authentication we have a fingerprint scanner build into the trackpad. Priced at $980, this feels much cheaper than the $1999 MacBook Pro. Interestingly, those who already got to play with this device claim that its trackpad is actually capable, feeling similar to the Apple Force Touch designs and also better than most Windows laptops.

The screen is said to be a bit glossy and the resolution is just Full HD, maybe less than one would expect on a sort of 2017 flagship. By the way keep an eye on the special technology on board: Harman Infinity, Dolby Atmos, 2 antenna AC WiFi, 60 Wh battery, Gorilla Glass and a lightweight adapter. All of that in a 1.95 kilogram heavy package.
