The HiBook News: We need some cash!

By Tim

So as any regular visitor here knows, this site normally has run on a HiBook tablet or even a notebook PC. However because I just moved I had to reorganize everything and put everything onto to a shared hosting site.

Yes, the site is faster, but as we know the entire purpose of this site is to run it on a tablet or notebook and abuse the crap out of the device just to make sure that said device is worth buying.
The HiBook has served as a server for more than 1.5 years and shows no problems. My old Asus X553SA  notebook served for about a year as a backup and the Hi12 has done its fair share of playing server as did my Asus Z580CA tablet.

So where am I going with this post? Well we need some dollars here to fuel the cable company so I can get everything running back here at the new apartment. We are not talking about a fortune here, about $1800 will do the job and get us a new laptop/notebook to abuse and test along with a years worth of cable service.

So bottom line here is I could use some donations. Sure, if you clcik a link on most pages here and purchase something I will make a few dollars! That would be super. Bottom line however is that in the last 12 months I have made about $59 off of adverts/clicks. Considering the roughly 3500 hrs I put in per year to maintain this site and try to provide info, that simply ain’t hacking it.

So now I am going to come out and ask, that if you find this site useful and or informative that you send a small donation.

My promise is that once we achieve at least 50% of the goal that ALL adverts will go away. Of course I will continue to link products in the faint hope that someone uses the link, but by and large all the image type ads will go bye-bye!

Of course you can donate via PayPal! You would be amazed that no matter how small the donation, how much more we could do here! So do not wait, lest we are eaten by dragons…huh? Yeah, If you like the site and the others I run help now by clicking here. Or on the blatant Donate button below…

Donate Now!

I will do my best to make sure all contributions are given credit and I will be sure to visit your web site, and link it also!

That is all for now,
Tim

The Latest Dragon Touch Report: Statistics Indicate That Folks Hereabouts Ain’t Too Bright…

Asus Z580CA ZenPad
Asus Z580CA ZenPad

So as we all know the Dragon Touch X10 Tablet has be doing server chores for about 65% of it’s life. However, since March it has been relieved in this capacity occasionally, by the far superior, super fast and amazing Z580CA Asus 8 inch tablet, which happens to sport a 2.3 gHz Intel Atom CPU and as a bonus it offers a whopping 4gb of ram and 64gb of on tablet storage AND a microSD slot should you be a data whore.

So it is only fitting that I point out that the Asus Z580CA is for sale. Sure I have probably mentioned it before, but I have reduced the price to the “stupid” low level of roughly $124 off retail! (yeah that would be $175), which for this tablet and the case, USB C to full USB adapter makes it a deal, but yet no one but idiots have yet to contact me….

….tonight, the Asus is covering the server chores. So whatever you see tonight, originates from an Asus Zenpad S 8.0,(Z580CA).

Today I Ran a Comparison Tablet Server Loading Test Between The Dragon Touch X10 and the Asus Z580CA.

asusZ580CA-test4I visited pingdom.com and did some site/server testing today, mostly out of couriosity and found out that for the most part there was little difference between the two tablets in how fast they delivered a web page.

The average load time for the Dragon Touch was 5.023 seconds.  The Asus loaded pages at an average time of 4.976 seconds. So for the most part the results were inconclusive because I have no way to know if there were any other visitors on the site at the same moment. The Dragon Touch did pull off the fastest load time at 3.94 seconds so technically that makes it the winner, but not really, considering the average speed.

Below are  the results of those tests, first, the Dragon Touch.

So I am not really certain which device makes the better server, they seem rather equal to me.

Since I am back to playing with an actual Tablet server, I have once again gone nuts…Redundancy? Yeah, how to do that?

Screenshot_2015-11-14-14-13-24

Should you read this post this evening, on the actual server, you will notice a notation that this is my Asus Tablet now running as a server. Same address, same KSWeb app, but running on an Intel with twice the ram.

Now what I need is a simple system to keep both tablets synced, because this post won’t be on the Dragon Touch when I fire it back up tomorrow as the test server.

It is rather an interesting question, that really doesn’t require an answer, but gosh darn it, I want suggestions!

After thinking it over,….Problem solved I really used updraft plus and all is easily done with a few clicks!

Silly ideas often become reality…a Tablet server cluster?

Screenshot_2015-11-14-14-13-24Now I do own 2 tablets and I was thinking how can I “cluster” these to run a single website from and reduce server load?

This may be quite possibly the stupidest idea I have ever had, but it makes sense. Use one tablet as the primary and have it auto synch to the othe so that when battery life is low everything can be switched to the freshly charged tablet server.

Is there any real reason to do this? Of course not! But then again, the question remains can it be done? Inquiring minds want to know!
