Logitech Crayon for iPad Becomes Available for Everyone on September 12th

By Radu Iorga

Apple Pencil isn’t the only way to do input on iPads, as there’s also something called “Crayon” from Logitech. It’ll finally go live for the masses on September 12th, the date when Apple has an event scheduled.

This product was only available for schools and students till now. Logitech Crayon will hit Apple’s retail stores from September 12th and it’s going to cost $70, compared to the $50 that schools paid for it. The accessory uses the same palm and tilt aware technology as the Apple Pencil, but has less pressure sensitivity. It’s designed with hand written notes in minds and also sketches, but not complex artwork.

It offers a 7 hour battery life, which may sound OK, unless you’re really working away from home or the office a lout. The design is clearly more premium than the Apple Pencil one, with an aluminum and rubber design. It’s rugged, so it can survive 4 foot drops. It also has a female Lightning port for charging, instead of the annoying connector from the Apple Pencil.

Back to the Crayon, it works with the sixth gen iPad, uses Apple Pencil style technology, has tilt and auto connect, so no need for Bluetooth pairing. It has auto shutoff after 30 minutes and a removable cap. With 2 minutes of charge you’ll get about 30 minutes of battery life. It comes with 1 year of warranty and weighs 0.7 oz.

Apple Working With New Stylus Suppliers; Fresh Rumors About iPhone Styli Appear

By Radu Iorga

Today’s news about Apple concerns accessories, or better said the stylus. The Apple Pencil has been rumored to come to the iPhone for a bit now and today we learn that Apple has new partners and suppliers in this area.

The Apple Pencil has been working with the iPad Pro for a few years and got support for the cheaper 2018 iPad this year. A report from Economic Daily News from China shows that Apple approved a new stylus supplier from Taiwan. The report claims that the company (Elan) is going to supply touch and pen related chips for the two new iPhone X handsets this year. Those are supposed to be the iPhone Xs and the iPhone Xs Plus, according to the latest naming patterns leaked.

Using a stylus with a 6.5 inch iPhone makes sense, but it’ll be a bit odd on a 5.8 incher. If you ask me, I’m reading more into this partnership than just iPhone action. We’ve been hearing about a new generation of stylus for months now and we’ve also seen a patent that concerns its tip. We could be getting ready for an Apple Pencil 2.0 right about now. The Pencil could stand for being slimmer, offer even more levels of pressure and get some buttons.

We take everything with a grain of salt at the moment, but since screen panels keep evolving, it’s not out of this world to see an iPhone with a stylus. Speaking of which, the next gen iPhones are less than a month away from being announced.

Staedtler Chromebook Stylus Debuts, Looks Exactly Like a Classic Pencil

By James A.

I feel that vintage writing items are coming back, as people are paying exorbitant amounts of money for typewriters, fountain pens and the works. It’s no wonder German brand Staedtler announced a special Chromebook stylus, that looks an OG pencil.

People simply want the old feeling they had in school, when they mere messing around with crayons. We already interact with tablets and laptops using fingertips and pro styli, but the classic approach never dies. You need to highlight, draw and emphasize content and this pencil may just come in handy. The Staedtler Norris Digital is the name of the accessory and it’s pencil-shaped stylus meant for Chromebooks.

It’s a digital pencil that will be available this summer and it follows the legacy of a brilliant #2 pencil brand. The device uses Wacom EMR technology to interact with Chromebooks, a tech we’ve also seen on the Samsung Galaxy Note and S Pen products. There’s no need for charging, there’s palm rejection and pressure sensitive input. There’s no battery here and the product is made from sustainable wood.

The Norris digital is promoted as an education tool and it’s meant for reading, writing and compatibility with Google Classroom, Jamboard, Squid and MyScript Calculator. The accessory is compatible with the following Chromebooks:

  • Acer Chromebook Tab 10
  • Acer Chromebook Spin 11 (R751T or CP311 models)
  • Acer Chromebook Spin 13 (CP713-1WN
  • Asus Chromebook Flip C213
  • CTL Chromebook NL7TW=360
  • Dell Chromebook 11 convertible (5190)
  • HP Chromebook x360 11 G1 EE
  • Lenovo 500e Chromebook
  • Samsung Chromebook Plus
  • Samsung Chromebook Pro

We don’t have a price yet, but since it’s both vintage and modern I expect a bigger than usual sum. Expect color combos like yellow and white, green and white and blue and white, plus red and white.

A Few Videos Worth Watching: The Meko Precision 2-in-1 Stylus, Inexpensive, But Can Get the Job Done!

By Tim

If you own a smartphone, tablet or most any other touch screen device there are situations where a stylus might be handy. Obviously you can pay big bucks for one and get 1 billion levels of pressure sensitivity, (I might have exaggerated a bit),  but if you simply want a simple way to point and click and take notes, the device in the title might be for you!

We have 2 videos tonight, one from Andrew of at AMDTech and  the second one from myself, because I thought this worth sharing from my perspective. So first of all you can get this stylus at Amazon with a 20% discount using Andrew’s store link! That makes it a dirt cheap foray into the stylus market and of course that is why I am also doing a short video on it.

This product might be rather useful on my Hi12 tablet just to keep fingerprints off the screen and write some notes here and there!

So let us move on and get to those videos…first up is Andrew and make sure to subscribe to his channel for some great video content.

Next of course is my less polished review pointing out why this is such a great deal for folks that never thought of using a stylus and want some High End Cheap Tech!

That is all we have for this time, make sure to subscribe to all channels mentioned above and like and share, etc, etc.

New Apple Pencil Being Developed, According to Analyst

By Radu Iorga

Traditionally Apple unveils new tablets around Spring time, maybe March, so we may be close to a new unveiling. Or they could keep the OLED iPad Pro for the fall. What’s sure is that something is brewing and a new stylus may also be in the cards. Giving us the down low on the scoop is an analyst, after the break.

Rosenblatt Securities analyst Jun Zhang claims that Apple could be working on a brand new Apple Pencil. It’s said to go past tablets and be designed with the iPhone X Plus in mind. That device is rumored to be a 6.5 incher, so it’s on the hefty side for sure. This would make it a Galaxy Note rival and as such it needs a stylus of course. The Apple Pencil isn’t exactly ideal for smartphone use, as it’s rather big and not dockable anywhere.

Still, Apple could come up with something smaller and more stylish. The thing is that back in the days of Steve Jobs, the stylus was despised by Apple, but now they’re actually growing fond of it. Even now the Apple Pencil has some quirks, like the way it charges hooked up to the tablet in the most uncomfortable way possible. Maybe generation 2 will come with a carrying case or some other way to charge it.

Expect improved precision, long battery life and a smaller format, if it’s indeed meant for the iPhone X Plus. Otherwise, it’ll be the same size and meant for the iPad Pro 2018, with extra sensititivity.
