New Driver Update for Microsoft Surface Pro 4 Offers On Screen Support for Surface Dial

By Radu Iorga

One more important device from Microsoft has received a major update this week, the Surface Pro 4. Microsoft Surface Pro 4 has on screen support for the Surface Dial, the famous round and rotating device that lets you interact with graphics and editing software better.

There are new drivers available for the Surface Pro 4, which activate the on screen support for the Surface Dial and improve the touch accuracy. Once the update is installed, you can place the Surface Dial directly on the screen and interact with a color picker or ruler, which will appear on the display. New drivers have been offered for Surface Dial Detection, Surface Dial Filter, Surface Digitizer Integration, Surface touch and Surface Touch Servicing ML.

The Microsoft Surface Pro 4 is a fourth generation Surface product, launched 3 years ago. It’s got a Skylake CPU, more RAM and SSD than the predecessor and it comes with a 12.3 inch screen with higher resolution. Right now if you access the Microsoft Store, you will see the device is out of stock. Other retailers may have it, starting at $700, with 128 GB of storage and Core m3 CPU (no pen).

You can perform the download yourself through Windows Update or from the Surface Pro 4 Drivers and Firmware page.

Microsoft Surface Pro 4 Claimed to Have One of the Best Tablet Displays Ever, According to Experts

By James A.

microsoft-surface-pro-4-news-0016-1260x840-1260x840

It appears that the Microsoft Surface Pro 4 has a kickass display, a feat confirmed by the latest tests from authorities in the field. The device comes with a 12.3 inch screen with a resolution of 2736 x 1824 pixels and its tests showed record breaking numbers, according to display expert Ray Soneira.

The device even upgrades the performance of the screen on the Surface Pro 3, by quite a bit actually. Surface Pro 4 comes with the most accurate color reproduction on a tablet display ever measured till now. As an extra, the very same screen uses little power, requiring just 4.8 watts to mode those 267 pixels per inch on a 69.8 square inch screen area.

This means that it uses 57.8% of the power that an iPad Air 2 requires to move pixels around, on a smaller space and resolution. Surface Pro 4 also upgrades the already good feats of the Pro 3, increasing maximum brightness, contrast ratio, absolute color accuracy, view angle performance and adding a lower screen reflectance in the mix.

Soneira found that the Pro 4 brightness is 436 nits, but the black luminance is 0.31 nits and the true contrast ratio is 1406. Those are excellent numbers for any device, but let’s see how the iPad Pro performs before judging further.

Microsoft’s Surface Pro 4 Builds On The Pro 3, Bolstered By Windows 10

By Alex Wilhelm

Microsoft Surface Pro 4 Type Cover Detail

With the Surface Pro 4, Microsoft has taken something that worked — the Surface Pro 3 — and made it better. That’s it. Review over. You can go outside now and dance. Still here? I’ve had a Surface Pro 4 over the past week, alongside its now bigger sibling the Surface Book. The two devices are more different than I expected. For the length of this rumination, I will… Read More

Surface Pro 4 Becomes Microsoft’s Fastest Reserved Tablet in Business Segment, With Record Adoption Rate

By Radu Iorga

Microsoft-Surface-Pro-4

Microsoft’s Surface Pro 4 was announced this month, but it’s already breaking records, in spite of not even being on the shelves yet. The device got the fastest ever adoption rate of any Surface device so far in the business area, even though it’s shipping on the 26th.

13 customers in the big league, like educational institutions have committed to buying the Pro 4, even before it hits stores. BNY Mellon, AstraZeneca, The Carlyle Group and USI Insurance Services are some of the names who promised to adopt the product. Brighton College International, Sheffield Hallam University and University of Central Lancashire have all signed up for the Surface Pro 4 as well.

There are quite a few appealing aspects here, like the new pen and keyboard and the lower thickness of just 8.4 mm for the slate. Windows 10 on top of a Skylake CPU is a good combo as well. Cyril Belikoff, senior director of Surface marketing for Microsoft claims that the value of the Surface Pro for business customers comes from the money they can save by buying the product.

This removes the need for a pricey laptop or iPad and offers full Office and desktop apps, as well as strong security, according to the same official. Keep in mind we’re still waiting on the iPad Pro to make a mark and only the holiday season results and early 2016 will tell us who won. Microsoft is in the meantime due to report its first quarter 2016 fiscal earnings two days from now, with the past quarter bringing solid Surface earnings.

Microsoft Surface Pro 4 Officially Announced, Gets New Surface Pen and Keyboard With Fingerprint Scanner; Microsoft Also Surprises With Surface Book Laptop

By Radu Iorga

Today’s Microsoft event ended recently and it brought us some new and interesting products, like the Microsoft Surface Pro 4 and also a bit of a surprise, the Surface Book laptop. Windows Hello, Cortana and all the goodies are included here.

Starting at $899, the Surface Pro 4 tablet gets the latest Intel Skylake processors and Windows 10 on board. This time we also get a fingerprint sensor on the keyboard and Cortana integration, including on the Surface Pen, that activates Cortana if you keep its button pressed. The new slate brings a 12.3 inch screen fit in the same frame as the 12 inch predecessor.

The new Surface Pen has 1024 pressure levels and can be magnetically attached to the Surface Pro 4 when not in use. This is supposed to be the “thinnest and most powerful” Intel Core PC ever shipped and to achieve said small waistline, Microsoft also used an ultraslim 0.4 mm thick Gorilla Glass 4 layer upfront. A special G5 chipset was also developed to run the optical stack.

Up to 1 TB of space and up to 16 GB of RAM are available here, plus that Intel 6th gen CPU. The product becomes available on October 26th.

Then there’s the surprise: Surface Book, a 13.5 inch display laptop with a starting price of $1499. This model is basically a Surface turned full fledged laptop, with a fully removable screen, so you can use it as a tablet. You can also flip the screen all the way around and turn this into a convertible. The device has a body made of machined magnesium and uses an unique hinge called “dynamic fulcrum”.

It feels a bit like an office lamp, as it bends and flexes almost. Surface Book includes a backlit keyboard and offers deeper keys, with 1.6 mm of travel. The product is compatible with the latest Surface Pen as well and offers the user the choice of the latest Intel Core i5 and i7 processors, plus an Nvidia GeForce GPU with GDDR5 memory, but that one’s located in the dock, so it’s a must have.

The dock also brings two USB 3.0 ports and an SD card slot. Another interesting aspect here is the promise of 12 hours of usage on a single charge. Sounds better than the MacBook Pro? Well, on paper it does… Preorders start tomorrow!
