Bloomberg Unveils Details About Apple’s 2018 Fall Lineup: New iPad Pros With Gesture Control, 3 iPhones and More

By Radu Iorga

Bloomberg has it on good authority that Apple will unveil a lot of hardware products during the next month event. Last we heard it was taking place on September 12th and it was about to bring us 3 new iPhones. At least two tablets and a watch now pop up. We have details below.

As you probably know already, Apple is preparing 3 new iPhones: the iPhone Xs with a 5.8 inch OLED screen, the iPhone Xs Plus with a 6.5 inch OLED screen and the iPhone 9 or even the iPhone SE 2 as it’s been called lately, with a 6.1 inch LCD display. We could also see a new Apple Watch with a larger screen and the same body, but what we’re really interested in are tablets.

The theory about notch iPads is back. This time we should get an 11 inch iPad Pro and a 12.9 inch model, both ready for debut. The 11 incher replaces the 10.5 inch model, with a smaller bezel screen in the same footprint. Bezels are cut on both versions, by the way. There’s no more Home button or fingerprint scanner either and we’re using Face ID, courtesy of a special face unlock mechanism tucked within the notch.

An interesting new leak says that the slates will be controlled with gestures, much like the iPhone X and you’ll use those gestures to navigate the tablets and Face ID to unlock them. I don’t see anyone mentioning an Apple Pencil 2, but I have a feeling it’ll also come up. Lately we’ve also been seeing a strange cutout of the back of the new iPad’s case, so something new is also ready for its back side.

What could it be?

Tonight’s Video Worth Sharing: Innovation Versus Stagnation – The Vivo NEX S Smartphone

By Tim

Tonight’s Video is about engineering and innovation, versus stagnation and copycatting! As we all know the notch, while not introduced by Apple, has certainly become popular due to their use of it. It is one of the worst ideas ever to make a smartphone larger because of the loss of a full 1/3 section of the middle of the top of the screen.
Enter Vivo, one of several companies doing engineering and innovating and not being a follower but rather a leader.
So watch the videos I mentioned in the video here and reach your own conclusions. (They will be linked a few paragraphs down.)

The Vivo NEX S gives us proof that with a bit of engineering and innovation we can lose the notch, have super small bezels and not follow the path of Crapple, err, Apple. The phone has bleeding edge tech and great specs and the list below covers only the basics. Suffice to say the in-screen fingerprint reader and the screen that acts as an earpiece are very slick. As is the pop-up selfie camera!

Google Pixel 3 XL prototype shows an all-glass back, giant display notch

By Ron Amadeo

XDA Developers

It looks like we’re quickly learning more about Google’s upcoming flagship smartphone. After a description of the phone and a leak of a screen protector, we’ve now moved on to apparent prototypes of the Pixel 3 XL.

XDA Developers is showing off pictures of a device that lines up exactly with previous reports. The prototype has a very large display notch housing an earpiece and two front-facing cameras. There’s a chin at the bottom, and between the chin and the notch there are two front facing speakers. The notch looks much taller than what’s on the iPhone X, OnePlus 6, or LG G7. For an idea of just how long it is, OnLeaks shared a set of measurements for the Pixel 3 XL, which shows an 8.1mm-tall notch. A typical Android status bar is about 4mm high, so the notch on this phone is would stretch out the status bar to make it double-height, just like on the Essential Phone.

Huawei, Asus embrace the smartphone notch

By Matt Burns

The notch is here to stay. Two upcoming phones are reported to sport the awful, disgusting notch at the top of the screen. Huawei and Asus are following Apple and Essential down the notch hole. Neither of these phones are confirmed or officially announced yet. Both the Huawei and Asus models appeared online ahead of their official unveiling. They sport, among with what I assume are top-tier… Read More
